A tribute to the 1:6 figures we lost: the big cancelled figure thread

Well, a couple months back I was looking at a folder I have of figures I wanted to order but that got cancelled or indefinitely delayed and it got me thinking. Fast forward to today and I have added the list all the 1:6 I could think of that were cancelled or put on hold and decided to make a thread dedicated to them.

I did have figures such as Drax and Ripley's on the list but it seems those are now happening so removed them. I am sure others will come to see the light of day eventually but I think it is useful to keep track of them, especially as having a list of such figures might help companies choose a project to resurrect if the demand is there :)

To start, those HT figures that never saw the light of day:

(I cant remember the sites I saved most the images from, if you know where credit goes please let me know)

Professor X:
Image

The Lone Ranger: no surprise that this was scrapped, but the prototype was close to finished so they could have gone ahead and released it anyway but nope, no Lone Ranger for your Tonto.
Image

Platoon figures: Ok, there was at least one released, but the rest never materialised.
Image

TASM Peter Parker: Pretty good looking figure even if the film wasn't great, would have been nice to see it made.
Image

Green Lantern: Never even saw a prototype :/
Image

Loki: There was an avengers version later released, but the Thor movie version never was
Image

Rhino: What a beast of a figure! But sadly, despite looking finished this was never released likely due to the very brief amount of screen-time and poor movie reviews :(
Image

Clear Batcage: There was an unlicensed one made IIRC so maybe HT thought it wasn't worth it.
Image

'66 Batmobile: Ok , it is a vehicle, but still 1:6. another 1:6 vehicle that never saw release was the Bat aircraft from the Dark Knight Rises, but it did get a 1:12 release IIRC.
Image

Prometheus: This one seemed mostly done and there was (and still is) demand for the figures despite the movie being less than amazing.
Image

Not sure how many I have missed so far so please let me know if I need to add any.

Next: Play Imaginative

PI did have an entire line of DC new 52 characters in completed prototype stage at SDCC 2013 (IIRC it was SDCC) but from the line only the superman saw release. They did previously make a Jim Lee batman and 3 variants of the mk7 Iron Man (before they lost the license). The remaining 4 New 52 figures never saw the light of day as far as I can tell.

Green Lantern:
Image

The Flash:
Image

Cyborg:
Image

Batman (New 52 version)
Image

Now Enterbay:

Django Unchained: An example of PC public outrage hitting toy companies, Neca pulled their figures from stores and Enterbay never released theirs. The figures looked great, especially the headsculpts! A sad loss for many.
Image

Bulma from Dragonball Evolution: ****e film for sure, but this Emmy Rossum figure would have been at the top of many collectors buy lists. Just look at that headsculpt!
Image

Now on to 3A/Threezero

Jorge (Halo Reach): After all the drama surrounding the disappointing Master Chief figure there have been no further releases or announcements regarding Halo figures since the release of the Spartan Recruit/Thorne. This is sad since fans such as myself want more Halo 1:6 and 3A just needed to make the figures function properly, not a huge ask given that 3A has been around for a long time and have probably hundreds of figures in their back catalogue.
This prototype is the last we saw of Jorge.
Image

LMS (Last Man Standing) Paladin: This one was shown fairly recently and the prototype looked finished but updates seem to have stopped and it wasn't shown at the latest shows which suggests it is also dead in the water. Perhaps in reaction to the Masterchief episode?????
Image

Carver (Dead Space 3): Isaac Clarke was released but Carver never was. This was likely due to the Isaac Clarke figure failing to sell well enough since the outfit was not one of the more iconic armours and the game itself suffered mixed reviews.
Image

Next: Coo Model

Abba Ray: This one looked awesome but news stopped flowing long ago. Presumed dead.
Image

Sgt Devil Johnny: As above.
Image

Prince Armoury (Iron Knight): Probably suffered a C&D as there have been no updates. :(
Image

Now for a couple Hasbro figures:

Temple of Doom Indy: This one never got released as far as I can tell.
Image

Repulsor Power Stealth Iron Man mk3: Never released variant of the mk3.
Image

Now for misc figures:

Edenlost figures by Glitch Network: I am only listing this one as they confirmed it is on indefinite hold but the God Complex Hephaestus is also delayed as they are modifying it.
Image

Headplay Old Iron Man: Likely another C&D victim. The Prototype appeared complete including packaging but nothing has been released and there have been no updates from what I can see in at least a year.
Image

Barlowes Hell figures: Another one where the company has fallen silent and no news in a long time. The website seems dead too. :(

EDIT: Despite the couple years of waiting this figure did eventually go to pre-order and now those who ordered await the delivery date to arrive.
Image

Commander Shepard by Kotobukiya: This one was lost, but we did at least get a Threezero figure!
Image

Steve Jobs by Inicons (I think that was the company anyway): A C&D victim
Image

Dream Concept District 9 figures: The Dark Green and Yellow version prawns were starting to ship when the C&D letter arrived so a few of them got out but the red prawn didn't and of course the Wikus figure and the Mech never went into production. Luckily Threezero have the license and are making Christopher Johnson and the mech while Mivi released a Wikus set. Add to that the long sold out Phantomgreen Workshop gun models and it seems some of us are gonna have some decent district 9 displays!
Image

Image

1000toys Indra: Confirmed cancelled :(
Image

Pew Pew Gun Pinyike Red version: The final figure is being released in white, grey and black but the red was cancelled. Of course, it could see release later anyway since it is just a repaint of the basic body.

EDIT: this got released eventually in the second wave of Pinyike bodies, so was uncancelled.

Image

Phicen Honey West: last I read it was canned.
Image

Devil Toys Perfect Master: Ok, not cancelled, it is still in the pipeline, but the design has changed significantly to the point that it is a completely different figure, so this older version represents what could have been.
Image

To finish this post, some cancelled Kerberos Panzer Cops!

Takara Tomy figures: There were 5 figures announced and shown in an image shown at some toy events, but only 1 of them saw release (the male Panzer Cop). Technically the military figure was released but only after a complete re-design. The sniper never saw the light of day, neither did the female looking diver, light gear SWAT team or camouflage armoured soldier.

Perhaps one day I will make them myself.
Image

Image

Military armour in black: This was something that was confirmed to me to be in the plans but never happened. The green version that was released was cool, and had many modification points worked into the design for future variants. The planned Black version would have included a clip on wrist shield based on design sketches. That can at least be customised by someone brave.
Image

Platz Hobby Kerberos Panzer Jager: This was in development for many years and would have been made using the Dragon Models LTD super articulated modern body and would have included metal bullets, helmet etc and was shown in two versions, the dirty brass colour armour and clean shiny black.

Shortly after the terrible tsunami hit Japan some years back, these figures and all the non 1:6 Kerberos Saga items that Platz had in development were removed from their site and nothing was heard until Hot Toys announced that they were developing the Kerberos Panzer Jager (some would say it worked out for the better, I kinda agree but my wallet doesn't).

Fingers crossed some items on this list eventually get put back into development, or maybe some smaller companies looking for ideas could attempt some.

Please feel free to tell what figures I missed in this list, I am sure there are many more

Wow, quite a lot of effort went into this post and it's truly interesting to see this info collected in one place. I'll turn my mind to whether I can think of anything to add. Thanks for doing this.

Thanks for confirming as someone who actually purchased it. I've seen it "sold out" on some sites but haven't actually seen it in some others that I frequent. Too bad about the shoddy sculpt, with me thinking that the one they showed was only a mock-up, with an attempt to do an old Hollywood style face. The new one coming out looks kind of like a bruiser (which I guess could have been more likely in real life), lacking the stately image that Richard is often portrayed with.

Thanks for the new additions everyone, there are so many that never happened it seems! Please keep adding any you know of because this is the most fascinating area of the hobby at times! So many figures I wish weren't canned.

A couple things I didn't add to the list so far are the Ammobot by Original Effect (it was in early stages of design last I spoke to them so too early to call it dead) and the Hot Toys Blue Steel Iron Man armour since although it has been shown at events for years with no announcement of pre order, it is likely to come out at some point because it is HT and Iron Man and just a repaint of the Silver Centurion.

Also, 3A did say that an Elite was in the plans for their Halo line before it tanked, so I guess that is another for the list.

Yes, takara did 3 female panzer cop variants in their cool girl line prior to the full line announcement for their GenX core figure line. Takara actually in total released 7 panzer cops: 3 female variants (grey, gloss black and matte black), 3 male variants (different character heads) and 1 soldier (green armour).

The figures from Takara that we never saw were: the black variant military armour figure with wrist shield (and probably another following takaras pattern of 3 variants per armour), the original camo design soldier, the diver, the sniper and the light armoured SWAT figure(s) with large full body shield. There likely would have been additional colour and accessory variants too.

I own all the female Takara Tomy Kerberos Saga Protect Gear COOL GIRL figures and all the male figures except for the last one they produced. I missed out on that one. I'll need to go down into the archives and pull them out for some in hand photos time permitting.

I remember paying a pre order that I never recovered for some space suited 2001 Space Odyssey figures. Twitch Squad seems to ring a bell as the place. They may have been released, but I never saw them.

Drastic Plastic promised a WW2 USMC PTO figure, pre-ordered at the near-unheard of price of $50. They lied, and continued to lie, and string along excited enthusiasts.
If I recall correctly, the original prototype was returned to the artist, torn to pieces (NOT just disassembled).

Damn, Mike. That's a shame. That Marine shotgunner looks amazing and I know of a reference photo on which he's based. Thanks for saving the photos, though. I bet he could be kitbashed.

I don't have the photos, but off the top of my head on the WWII front:

DML German 251 Halftrack - and it's rumored release sabotaged DiD's actual 251 halftrack release and perhaps made DiD think twice about future vehicle releases.

DML German Waffen-SS pioneer with mine detector equipment and yet to be released M-44 fall oak leaf camo pattern uniform

DML German DAK officer from 1942 - probably around the time of El Alamein - with short boots and the baggy DAK trousers. Based off of a DML 1:35th scale box art - quite possibly a Ron Volstad work.

DML British SAS LRDG figure - to rival the superb BBi Douglas Caldwell release

Damn you, Dragon!

What a comprehensive list Jaztermareal - thanks for all the effort it must have taken.

I can think of a few vehicles DML never released. First there was the German SdKfz, which was announced at the same time as DiD announced theirs. As people speculated at the time, it was only intended to slow orders for the DiD version. It certainly was never produced and I don't think they even released prototype pix.

Then there's the Sherman Firefly announced in 2013, taking pre-orders in 2014, and never actually produced afaik.

As for Hot Toys Platoon figures, they did produce Barnes, but that was it. I too will never forgive them for not producing Elias.

Then there's Dam Toys 3 Chinese Honour Guard figures. They've been up for pre-order on Ebay (although they don't actually call it pre-order) since 2015, and the release date keeps shifting forward a couple months at a time. There is nothing about these figures on their website, so I wonder if these will ever see the light of day?

Just wondering.

Would it be too premature to add the Chainsaw Girl, Wasteland Ranger, and New Epoch Cop from VTS to this list?

;) :p
