It's a good representation. Not perfect though, but I'm happy with mine. I really like that 3x magnifier that flips to the side.

I think it's a bit over scaled as well. The original Magpul Masada it nearly the same size as an M4 rifle. The stock and receiver look bulkier, but are actually nearly the same size. Not quite when you put a Dragon M4 beside the Sideshow ACR.

I'll try and find some pics I have as refs.

And as a side note, I have read that the ACR is not as reliable a rifle as the original Magpul Masada was. Mass production caused some issues in quality apparently.

I really like the one I picked up, but I agree the color leaves something to be desired.

 

I'm in process in moving the pistol grip to have more of a angle. But that may be another day. I gotta work on some Nunchucks for someone on the Forum. Life has me busy.

 

My thoughts exactly, Saiko did too, directed me to MD on the right time, and I did purchased one (he did too)

My observations:

Stock doesn't locks completely straight, they did a better job on the XCR.

Pmag is still over sized, but nothing really noticeable.

Charging handle is FRAGILE, I managed to break it while removing the optics, bummer.

The optics themselves are cool, but to narrow to be fitted to SS/PH/CD rails, a bit of work is needed, but they are possible to fit.

Good review, as a last point I agree with you, the cement mixer vomit grey is dull, weird looking and has to go, now, where did I put my krylon can?

 

Nice review Uswin! I picked up two of these and really like them. I'm interested in seeing your grip modification, please post pictures when it's completed.

 

Believe it or not but the colour used for Viper's Masada is the actual colour that some 'real' Masadas are.

I bought two loose and one I left it's original colour because it matches in well with the ACU camo pattern.
The other one I re-sprayed tan/olive and fitted it with a sling point in the right spot for a single-point sling.

I too noticed their P-Mags are a bit oversized compared the standard M4 mag, but I don't know if it could be because the Masada can be chambered to fire the fatter Remington 6.8mm SPC as well as the standard 5.56mm NATO rounds.

 

Oh, on that observation, 6.8/5.56 M4/AR-15 magazines have the same outer size, just a different magazine follower and some slight mods to the feed lips, but that's about it.

So it's just that sideshow oversized them, sadly.

But when the Masada is chambered for another caliber like the russian 7.62x39mm then surely it would need a bigger mag?

Still it is obvious that the SSC Masada is over-sized to a small degree but it's not noticable enough for me to worry about it.

 

SSC is using some kind of sturdy but malleable plastic for the rifle. And with no movable parts, it would withstand a fall better than SS rifle for example. I like their approach but I'm already too spoiled by SS with their clean and crisp super details and markings. I got the figure but sold the rifle soon afterwards.

 

I didn't even know you could retract the stock.

:thumb Yeah I have. I slid the foregrips off both of my Masadas without breaking anything.
They were both on there very tight but there was no visible sign that either of them were actually glued onto the rail that I could see after I removed them.

Yours might just need a little bit more effort to loosen it's intial grip before it will slide off for you.

 

Oh haha I realized I meant the handguards that the rails themselves are attached to. My mistake
I forgot it came with a foregrip/flashlight thing, I have no idea where I've left it now and forgot it even came with one! @_@

To answer that, yes it is glued onto the gun and glued on very well at that.

I wanted to convert one of my Masadas into a ACR but despite my best efforts to get the lousy front shroud apart, :doh I couldn't come apart without breaking it.
So I ended up having to just leave it as it is.

 

Uh, not quite... that masada "AKM" seems to be using either AUG pattern mags or 5.45 polymer mags, not banana mags by any extension of the term.

If someone wants to use Kalashnikov pattern magazines, then, yes, another type of receiver is needed.

Cerberus, usually, no different lower receiver is needed if a weapon just wants to use 7.62x39 ammunition, just a different magazine, which yes, it needs to be more curved (but not any longer), just like this PWS MK114 rifle:

Now compare it to a 6.8 magazine

And a 5.56 magazine

As you can see, the last mags have the same outer design, but different inner designs which account for the different dimensions in the cartridges they hold.

As for the extra-curved 7.62x39 mag, if Bushmaster/Remington/Magpul where to release a Masada/ACR in 7.62x39, they could use THAT magazine, and avoid changing dimensions to the rifle except for barrel and bolt, theoretically.

SO, not to derail the thread further, here is a little experiment derived from the post above, Sideshow Masada and PH MK18, both with DML AK47 mags as a place holder for an AR/Stoner pattern 7.62x39 magazine, with Sideshow's swivel mount magnifier mounted in the PH rifle, as a bonus, attached is the picture of a .223, a 7.62x39 and a 7.62x55 cases, just to show size etc...

As you can see, the DML mag fits the PH rifle perfectly (weird I know) but there's a bit of wee space left on the Sideshow rifle, but it's not noticeable, so it should be easy to hide it in pictures.

Nice experiment G! Is that carrying handle on the lower rail an attempt at a AFG? Love it. And where did you get the MOE? I didn't know a 1/6 version exists (other than SS's preview from the Beijing show).

 

Has a 7.62, let alone 6.8 Masada/ACR ever actually made it to trial/eval phase? I know civilian versions aren't available, and haven't seen any recent literature. Given the problems with the rifle, and the fact that the rifle hasn't really seen adoption on a large scale, I wonder if we'll ever see different calibers. I've fired a 5.56 ACR, and while a unique weapon in terms of design and modularity, I wasn't totally impressed. I would guess some of its popularity is driven by the Call of Duty players. The lack of real world adoption may also be a contributing factor to the lack of 1/6 versions in the market.

While I applaud Sideshow for creating a different 1/6 weapon, the execution certainly is a bit lacking. Still, great for creating more non-real world bashes.

From what I've read the mass production ACR has had a few problems with their quality control.
Tha handmade prototype ones worked well but it hasn't been the same deal for the mass produced ones.

That's a big reason why I think the US Military never adopted it.

 

It is two things, a place holder for the AFG and a reminder that I need to make a DD fixed rear sight, but the rifle is matter of another topic.

Given that broadshore and I have the ACR, Saiko and Cerberus too I guess, does anyone else has any questions now that we have our cameras out?

Hm... I might just do a cross-compatibility P-mag test...
