$30's what I paid for mine IIRC, which wasn't bad. 21C did a lot of great Nam stuff.
Going down the list of things I've trashed.
Several $25 uniform sets chopped up and dyed with chalk (and in one case, paint.)
$50 worth of rifles chopped and assembled into frankengun topped with $60 worth of scopes chopped into frankenscope.
$60 HT flight deck helmet chopped and painted ABF purple.
Every SS body I get now I sand, wrap, stretch, and chop.
And sometimes I chop up uniform or gear just for t.he camp fabric and webbing.

Probably a Sideshow WWII Kroenen figure. They're worth anywhere from $150-250 these days. I have about 3 of them lying around and another 2 MIB for some reason. It was all a big project to make a perfect Kroenen with a better body and improved parts but I never got around to finishing it. I got all of the existing Sideshow parts onto a HT TT body which improved things a lot but I still need to fixe the tailoring on the coat, file down some protruding parts on the head and possibly make a new hat that fits better. This is all why I have so many duplicates of the figure.

To really answer the question I would have to say the most expensive thing I've hacked up is my bank account with this hobby. In fact my I would also add my living and working space also. It's just a wasteland of figures and boxes.

I bought the HT Resident Evil Krauser. The commando version without the zombie parts. I had some store credit and saw it for relatively cheap. I think I sold off every part of that figure without ever using it. Such a waste.

Hmm... like Ryan, I too have hacked up quite a few rifles for custom builds, some of which were quite expensive. Here are a couple of the pieces that I have cut up which tend to fetch a pretty price loose:

HT SIG556 - hacked and heavily customized to make it more accurate to the 1:1 version.

HT EBR (x2) - telescoping M4-style stock hacked off one for use in another project (see below), remaining receivers hacked up and cobbled together to make M14 Juggernaut Rogue bullpup chassis (WIP).

TC Mk.14 Mod.1 - cannibalized for parts: flash hider used in Colt SCW, stock and grip used in tactical shotgun project (WIP), upper handguard used in M14 RAS project (WIP).

SSC XCR Micro - hacked and modified to make it more accurate to the 1:1 version, and to straighten the stock.

SS M4 CASV-EL - removed stock and buffer tube and replaced it with a Magpul M93a stock hacked off a HT M4. Also scratch-built a flared magwell for the CASV.

HT Noveske Diplomat - removed flash hider for use in another project, replaced stock and shortened buffer tube to accommodate it, hacked up the handguard in order to remove the Surefire grip which was VERY well glued on and replaced it with an AFG-1.

DAM M870 - pistol grip hacked off to make way for telescoping M4-style stock (stock taken from one of the HT EBRs mentioned above).

BS FN FAL - hacked and heavily customized into a SA-58 OSW (WIP).

PH Mk.18 Mod.1 - stock and buffer tube removed and replaced with CTR stock cannibalized from a SS M4 (M4 receiver broken in the process).

Well I'm about to hack up a Hot Toys Power Pose Iron Man MK42 that costs more than the 1st and perhaps 2nd IM MK3 figures just to get some decent articulation and save $300! I also rebuilt my HT Whiplash figure, hacked up a Kotobukio General Greivous to articulate him etc...
