Hello Guys,

I know this forum specifically deals with painting head sculpts, but I couldn't find a more appropriate place. What sort of paint should I use to repaint a brodie helmet, and to repaint the cap on a U.S canteen the same aluminium color as the body? Is there a foundation/finish I should apply before/after? Any tips on how to apply it would also be appreciated, as I am a complete noob at this, lol.

thanks!

Acrylics, enamels, both work well.
You may want I use a primer but I find just washing the part gives the paint a good enough key :)

In regards to the canteen, try a pencil, then spray it with hair spray. :)

Hi, thanks for your response! can you elaborate on the pencil trick? Do I spray the pencil with hairspray and then apply or do I apply the pencil on the cap and then apply the hairspray? (apologies if this sounds stupid)

No it's not stupid, everyone starts at the bottom ;)

Yeh you draw on with the pencil then spray, the spray acts like a varnish (but it's not permanent so be careful handling it). The same trick works for weapons and adding scratches. Just don't spray too much on, you basically just want to mist the part, not drown.
