Hi guys;

Thought I'd share some insights from my first day at Toyfair. I apopolgize for the poor picture quality. Trying to take them quickly and through glass so I'd have something for you. I will attempt to get better photos tomorrow.

The McFarlane HALO figure was pretty cool. Sorry, he's not 14" tall. I was bummed also. From talking with the staff the requesting company (I don't know if he was refering to Bungie) was very specific on dimensions. Same goes for the smaller HALO figures though there is a 7 - 8 inch set coming out later this year where the figures are proportional to each other.

McFarlane is going to be taking a break from modern figures. They had two 12" WWII figures displayed. A WWII soldier storming the beach on D-day and a marine hauling a flamethrower. Both were very detailed and realistic. The face of the soldier storming the beach was AWESOME!

Speaking with BBI's staff got me a "No comment" about new 12" figures this year but there was confusion in their eyes and reaction. I walked away feeling something is on the drawing board. On the 1:18 front they did have pictures of an AH64D Longbow (w/drop tanks instead of hellfire missiles), a TF 160 UH60 in DAPS mode. It featured miniguns for the door gunners, FLIR/weather radar bulges on the nose and a cover over the hardpoints so you don't have that annoying hole if you didn't attach the extended hardpoints for the fuel tanks. Finally they are releasing a pretty accurate AH6 little bird. This will use mostly the latest MH6 tooling but with the 2.75 in Hydra rockets AND miniguns. It will come in subdued black and brown versions. Again, these were all pictures and not prototypes. They also had pictures of a 1:32 F104 in woodland camo. I didn't have too much interest so I didn't look too hard.

Toyrrific was there. I was happy with what they were offering. I've seen too much criticism of this company's efforts on the board so I'm not going to post what I saw. I'll let the company do that. As I said I was happy with what I saw and am relieved to see a US company making the plunge into 1/6th.

21st Century had a 1/18 Kimg Tiger and 88mm. I was VERY impressed with the 88mm. Its going to be a BIG seller. They had a WWII .30 cal casting. Very nice, looked almost as nice as DiD's metal one. Same goes for the water cooled .30 cal they had on display. Both include a belt of ammo, loose rounds and tripod.

I've got two show days left. If I find anything of note I will post.

My feet are SORE. Glad i wore my Altamas. Dress shoes would have left me a crying puddle of flesh.

Biggest bang up front. I was FLOORED by Corgi. They are releasing an EIGHTEEN inch tall diecast ARTICULATED Master Chief! The picture below (weapon to his side) was the polystone mock up. Its due in June. I will try and find out how articulated tomorrow but don't expect too many answers.

I've attached some pictures of Neca figures. The Gears of War painted figures are the master sculpts. Very cool even if not my interest. Conan was awesome. The Alien and Predator figs were way cool. Salesman were busy but if you have a question I will try and get an answer for you.

DiD had a booth up and was showcasing already released figures. Looks like DiD is going to focus on WWI and Soldier Story is going to do modern. Should expect a new figure announcement from Soldier Story soon after the show. Get your questions in tonight. I will check my mail at 8:00 AM for any info I can find.

About Toyrrific, I'm not going to answer for them. They will post sometime after the show. Those of you that knock them are not helping yourselves or the hobby. The more companies that produce 1/6 the more choices there are for the consumer. Also competition pushes manufacturers in different directions impacting quality, quantity, variety and VALUE. From what I've seen these are AMERICANS with their hearts in the right place and their money to boot. Yep, its business but they are passionate about what they do and are listening to you (I think too much). BTW, nothing against foregn companies but I like spending my money whenever possible in the states so as to employ Americans and keep some manufacturing capability here in the event we aren't AS friendly in the future.

Regards,

Will

The thing I am happy about with the 12" Master Chief that McFarlane is doing is for once McFarlane is actually making ACTION FIGURES instead of their usual stutues labeled as action figures with the HALO Master Chiefs / Spartans. They actually have articulation for once. So this will be a good purchase, though we have to wait until August for it.

I found images of toyrrific stuff. http://toyfair08.asmzine.com/gallery/toyrrific/

Looks nice, wish he's do some armor in coyote or acu though.
The toyrrific products looks so-so to me, reminds me of my younger days when i started out into 1/6.... TS, 21st and earlier DML releases.
Thanks for the news. BBI better put out something this year. :mad
Any idea when the Toyriffic stuff will be released?
I'll have the McF Master Chief over GG's thanks! It'll be cheaper and more available. Nice one! Anyone seen NECA's 18" Giger Alien!?

CHEERS!

I think that with toyriffic you have to look past the presentation to the substance. Look at the gear. The boots aren't laced properly, but they're nice. The armor looks about like bbi quality, and the the packs and web gear are awesome. The weapons and other plastic bits look a little sup par, but they're far from god-awful, the shiny figs they're on lost a couple points though.
I was wondering about BBI. THanks for mentioning it.

Any word on the new Cy-Girl?
damn, i'm going to have to find some room for that DAP blackhawk and the AH-6, they'll go well with my recently acquired Nightstalker MH-6, thanks for the heads up. did you see if they had any other 1:18 figures planned? i've seen some cool recent ones that pop up on Ebay every now and then and they seem to be getting better and better.
Its great to see the Gears figures and the Halo stufv looked cool as well. Thanks for the info.

Gary
hahahahaha, love the gears of wars one with the guys head exploding!
EIGHTEEN inch diecast Master Chief? :jawdrop
Any word on price-point?

btw, nice report, thanks for sharing!
Thanks a lot for the pictures and report. That Conan looks great. I doubt that guy with the exploding head ever makes it to production.
Corgi doing a Master Chief, interesting!

Considering how they dropped BBI like a hot brick and left me in the lurch, I find it rather odd that they are now doing figures themselves.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.........

CHEERS!

I liked him too. Who will make the Conan is he a Statue or will have some measure of articulation... HotToys is sleeping on this one... Just think of the figs that could come from aquiring the License, Conan, the Female lead, the Asian Warrior. They have the techknowlegy to build him... Take the Gen. 1 Muscular Body Mold. Using the current synthetic material. Only thing Molded hair would suck. But I would buy it. If the pictured above becomes available as a figure vs. Statue I will add it to my list....
Thanks for sharing.

Answers to questions (that I can)

You aren't going to believe the price point on Master Chief. I didn't and niether did my sales rep. $100! Yep, $100 for an 18" DIECAST ARTICULATED Master Chief. I don't really do games or sci fi figures but I will carry this in my store just so I can have one. Its worth $300. Hope its not limited but I'm already confirmed for one. Maybe OSW would be interested in a group buy? Gotta think that one through.

The gears of War color figures are the masters. The actual figure proof is the 6" black figure in the front (only some had the proof there).

Sorry, Conan was a statue. Its by Neca.

Never got back to BBI.

One thing I'd like to add, Diamond Select's Jack Bauer figures. Looked pretty cool. Reasonable likeness. The latest two (black body armor) look awesome (pictures don't do justice). I really stressed to the company that the trousers need to be done with the opening in front and not Barbie style with the opening in back. I also asked that the briefcases be molded so as to open. Trousers might be too late, would carry the case recommendation forward. Besides being a fan of 24 this figure offers some nice kitbash parts (phone, radios, weapons), a reasonable nude and PMC type gear/clothes (vest, black coat, sweatshirt hoodie) for a very affordable $30.

$100?? You're right, I don't believe it, that's awesome; at that price I'd be seriously tempted to get more than one. I was fully expecting to have to shell out $200-300. Makes me wonder about the diecast content... Any idea if they're considering doing alternate repaints or sculpts?
