Hi All,

I am back to share my latest custom weapon build. This time I present you with a Heckler & Koch G36kv RAS. I have had a TC G36k in the stash for quite a while now which I have wanted to customise. I have always liked the look of this particular piece with all of its trademarks and engraved detail. The upper rail was cannibalised from a G36c that I had in the spares box (brand unknown). I was originally planning on mating an Armoury RAS handguard to the TC receiver, but had trouble removing the handguard from the TC base weapon. Plan B: convert the existing handguard into an RAS in situ. Here is what I came up with...

She is not perfect, but still not too bad for drilling all of the holes by hand with a pin vice. I still need to give her a few accessories to make use of all of that extensive rail real estate. I will give her an AFG and a taclight and/or laser to finish her off.

As always, your thoughts, critiques, comments, and suggestions are welcomed.

Fantastic job.
Thanks Matthew!

Really awesome work man! I need to pick up a Pin vise myself. Been using a Drill motor.
Cheers Uswin! The pin vice is handy as it allows you to control the speed and depth of the hole, but it does get tiring if you have to make a lot of holes as I have here. It also makes it more difficult to get all of your holes in nice straight lines. I really want to get my hands on a drill press for a dremel.

looks cool , is this the same variant that comes with the german ksk figure ??
Thanks Sam. The main differences between this build and the G36 which comes with the new SS KSK figure are: colour scheme (I wanted mine in black), top rail (I prefer the look of my one with the integrated sights), and the magwell (the SS version accepts PMAGs and STANAGs.

Very nice!
:thanks Thanks Ryan! Glad you like her, mate.

Man oh man, is that sweet. That is as good as it gets, when it comes to HKs.
:thanks Cheers PD! I still need to do a little more to her before I will be happy with the way she looks. I want to give her an AFG and possibly a taclight and laser, although I do not have any of those accessories with me - they are all in storage and it will still be a couple more months before I can get access to them.

Great work Jason!:thumb And the even more impressive thing is that I know you don't have most of your tools with you!

The only thing I would suggest as an alternative is adding an under slung grenade launcher like this:

Cheers George! Thanks for the kind words and the suggestions, mate. I did have a cheap Armoury G36 & AG36 that you can find on eBay (similar to the versions shown in your pics), although I already took the AG36 from that and attached it to an XM8. For this build, I really wanted to give her an RAS handguard, for a badass tacticool look.

Sadly, all of the tools that I have on me at present will fit into a child's small pencil case. For this build I used the following tools:

  • Hobby knife (No. 11 blade)
  • Sandpaper (2 different grades)
  • Regular modelling glue
  • Pin vice (2 different tiny drill bits)
  • Paint brushes (2 sizes for touch-up and dry-brushing)
  • Tamiya acrylic paint (Black for touch-up, and Buff for dry-brushing)

Well Jason, it certainly looks badass and tacticool! I think I will add a pin vice drill to my toolkit. Got a Dremel but maybe the pin vice will prove much handier in certain applications:think
