This is a 1/6 scale remote control Churchill tank and Small Box Girder Bridge. It was designed and built by retired engineer and farmer Alan Tamplin, who worked on it full time between December 1949 and February 1951. He was later forced to redesign the transmission, bringing total construction time to around 2500 hours.
Made of Duralumin, the model weighs 127kg, is 1.25m long and 50cm tall and wide. The remote control system could transmit 12 orders, including firing detonators in the main gun!
Extremely powerful, the model could climb a gradient of 1 in 3, transport a passenger and 'it is impossible for an average man to hold it back on grass.'
Beautiful! One sometimes forgets that one point of origin for our hobby are museum replicas.
