One of the best roles he had (imo) was in It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963). My sides hurt like I'd taken a beating for days afterward, and I thought he and Jonathan Winters were the best among a terrific cast.
He was also a pretty strong guy, and there was a story of how he once dealt with a nasty cabbie (told by Mel Brooks?) A long life, making people laugh. A guy could do a lot worse.
