Retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Harold Gregory "Hal" Moore, Jr. has passed away, three days before what would have been his 95th birthday. Moore is best known as the subject of the 2002 film We Were Soldiers, starring actor Mel Gibson as then Lt. Col. Moore, and which was based on Moore's book We Were Soldiers Once...and Young.

Here is a brief obituary from the Stars and Stripes website: Lt. Gen. Hal Moore dies; depicted in film 'We Were Soldiers' - U.S. - Stripes

Rest in peace, Gen. Moore, you have most certainly earned it.
