HDFL ( Hyper Detail Figure Lab ). This is a follow up to my HDGL ( Hyper Detail Gun Lab ).
Picture late 1950's - early 1960's white/blue collar science and engineering guys out in the high desert working on secret squirrel stuff. Wearing lab coats, slacks, and buddy Holly glasses. Maybe the occasional bottle of pop, and or smoking pipe sitting on a console. That was the aesthetic theme I was going for in the naming of these two projects.
Conceptually, the idea was to either scratch build or heavily modify each and every single part that goes into a custom figure. In some cases that may have only meant a repaint, or a weathering job, but the idea was to touch and tinker with every little piece - make it unique and personal in same way. Kind of the whole thing that got me into 1/6 scale in the first place.
As figures have become more and more detailed, and as the number of parts have increased in availability, it has become more and more difficult to be original. But I wanted to try anyway.
There are a total of 5 HDFL figures I have worked on thus far. I will roll them out roughly one per moth - although that could change. When you look at these figures, I hope that you will get the same sense of enjoyment and interest that I did when I was making them.
The folks who go in for accuracy only may not get much out of these figures, as much of the gear and weaponry is fictional. I just like to work that way - call it near future "what if" pseudo-science fiction. It is what fuels me - what takes me back to the bashing of 1/35 scale kits after I saw the first Star Wars movie. Thinking of an idea and making it happen with off the shelf stuff. Necessity is the mother of invention.
Months of tinkering, building, painting - 2 days of picture taking and processing - an hour loading the pics to the OSW gallery. Assembling the thread. All worth it.
Funny thing is - I was not sure how to categorize this one for the thread building process - I ended up choosing the Modern War (1990's to Present) option, although the Science Fiction Option may have been a better choice
Thanks for taking time to look at my thread. Any and all comments and questions are welcome and appreciated.
Best regards, Mike
