Manufacturers? Most of these seem pretty obvious, but I have seen people ask...

BBi = Blue Box International (but everyone always calls them just BBi)
DiD = Dragon In Dreams (gee, I wonder what that means...?)
DML = Dragon Models Ltd - aka "the big lizard"
HT = Hot Toys
NLM = Newline Miniatures
RA = Reload Action
RMC = Realistic Miniature Collectible Co.
SST = Sideshow Toys
ST = Saturday Toys
TS = Toy Soldier

I must admit I had no idea that SUCK was actually an acronym?!

edit: Now I realise that most of those are already on the list - for some reason I didn't notice them when I first read through it, I must have only noticed the acronyms I didn't already know, lol!

An British one -

BOBFOC = Body off Bay Watch, Face off Crime Watch
(Crime Watch is a UK crime-solving programme. A sexist remark made about a person of the female persuasion who has a great chassis which unfortunately isn't matched by her looks).
Over here, the term is "Butterface", as in, "Everything looks good but her face !" :)

You should probably add SWMBO ("She Who Must Be Obeyed"), a reference to the wife or girlfriend who may not be as thrilled with action figures as you are! :)

Here are a few that I thought needed amending, after looking at the list. A good list thus far though. Please forgive any oversights or mistakes, and some stray towards the military side, but I thought them pertinent since figures are named after these units or employ the jargon, and/or similar terms were noted already, or are used often, perhaps too often. Feel free to pick and choose which ones apply.

Mod, mods, also a reference to the moderators of the board.
NODs Night [vision] Optical Device.
FR, Recon, reference to USMC Force Reconnaissance companies or battalions. 1st and 2nd Recon are now a part of MARSOC, or Marine Special Operations Command, while 3rd and 4th Recon maintain their independent* statuses.
SPR is also short for Saving Private Ryan, a subject often seen in 1/6 as source materials for bashes.
TOTS Tears of the Sun, another film subject often depicted in our playscale.
HKCC Hong Kong Comic Con, since SDCC is noted.
USMC Corps not Corp[oration].
JSOC Joint Special Operations Command.
AFSOC Air Force Special Operations Command.
TF Task Force.
CQD CQC Close Quarters Defence/Combat.
MCCUU Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniform.
EGA Eagle, Globe, and Anchor the emblem of the United States Marine Corps.
FAST Fleet Anti-terror Security Team.
VBSS Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure, maritime cordon and search type operation. A variation may subsititute Vessel for Visit, but its the same thing.
OKC Ontario Knife Company, manufacturer/supplier of USMC bayonets that have been on the recent HT Marine figures.
TACP Tactical Air Control Party.
JTAC Joint Tactical Air Control Party, of which an esteemed OSW member and mod[?] is.
CCT Combat Controller.
MP Military Police.
EOD Explosive Ordinance Disposal.
SOTG Special Operations Training Group [USMC] Special Operations Task Group [Aussie]
DEVGRU short for NAVSPECWARDEVGRU which is in turn short for Navy Special Warfare Development Group, formerly ST6 or SEAL Team 6, maritime SOF*, or Special Operations Forces, under the Department of the Navy.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I read about the delineations in 'Not a Good Day to Die' about 10th MTN and the 101st ABN among other SF and SOF in the Sha-i-kot Valley, Afghanistan, and I think they're under the umbrella of SOF and not actually SF, like Army Green Berets?

Anyway its 4 am and I'm going to crash after I check my PM after not sleeping for a couple of days. Yay midterms! ~_~

10th Mtn and 101st are under 18th Airborne corps, we get attached sometimes to help SOF in missions but we arent considered SOF, We're just Infantry that happens to be realy good :ar15

Haha, that you are Viper29 :) :clap

I made a booboo though, cykninja, my bad. JTAC is Joint Terminal Attack Controller, and TACP is still Tactical Air Control Party, but our OSW Member and Mod is one of those. I duno how they fit together but.. Yeah this is what happens when Saiko doesn't sleep and is around a plethora of acronyms. :p

I'd like to ask another one. What's CIRAS?

Oh, this thread has been really helpful. I just started collecting 1/6 military figures so I need to do a lot of catching up with the acronyms. Thanks cykninja and OSW for sticking this thread up :D

Hi folks!

Can we please re-sticky this!? If we all promise not to get silly, I think it'll be a welcome addition to the ranks. We have had so many newbies since this was last up, and to save them getting lost I think we should keep this where they can see it.

Adding some Nam ones would be a big help

CHEERS!

PS (I'm assuming LRRP doesn't mean Lowest Recommended Retail Price!?)

Simple google search says CIRAS is Eagle Industries' Combat Integrated Releasable Armor System.

Roger, while I would usually side with you on this, as it has reduced questions/new threads about acronymizations over the past year [that I know of], I think it got dropped from stickies because there were just too many stickies.

A couple of other stickies important to other people were dropped as well because it started to expand the section too much. Besides, more often than not most people just ignore them anyway. :nanana

Also, LRRP stands for Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol.

Thanks folks,

Cykninja you derserve a POTB for starting this and agreeing to keep it going! I didn't search for this as I didn't know that it was around to search for after it was unstuck.

CHEERS!

PS (POTB = Pat On The Back)

PPS (This needs nan-o-bump!)

Awesomely awesome thread!! This deserves a sticky!! Hey you whack jobs we call admins!! Yeah you butterball!! Sticky this at the top where it might actually do some good around here, unlike Staff....

Kidding Kidding!! Jebus on a skateboard you guys are sensitive, you trade in your shorts for panties or what?

On a more kindly note: Would you fine folks in administration please post this in a fashion referred to as "sticky" (No not the kind that needs a Kleenex) so that we the people of these disjointed forums can understand what the hell everyone is talking about? That'd be just so gosh darn wonderful it'd make Mary Poppins look like a woman of loose morals.

Please I beg of you, I implore you to see the light....sticky this thread.
