I began experimenting more with repainting iver the last few weeks, trying to perfect every aspect of it that I could. I still need more practice, and any help would be good. One thing I experimented on was painting a sculpt without a fleshtone base coat. any guesses on which ones don't have the basecoat?

Yes, I realise I need to buy dullcote.

I also got all my photo-lamps working again, except one started to burn out near the end of the shoot.

I also did something new- I finally used a tripod. Because of my caffeine addiction, I cannot hold a camera still enough to get good pictures. I improvised this one, using the tripod off my telescope (yes, I'm a dork). I managed to mount my camera on it, and lowered it enough to get decent pictures.

A little note about telescope tripods- don't adjust them while your camera is still attached. Almost broke both the new camera and tripod.

Your painting skills sure are improving. I especially like the first one. But as you said, get some dull coat. Your guys tend to be shiny.

Damn fine job, especially the first head. I like the "translucent" effect, it looks like real skin versus someone wearing a quarter inch worth of pancake. Good job!

If you were doing desert or jungle troops then the sheen wouldn't be a worry. Sometimes though, my figures would end up looking a tad dull and I just found that a slightly closer than normal spray of pastel fixative left a good looking sheen that looks quite lifelike. I used to buff them with a polishing cloth, but when some paint came off I decided that this was no longer a good idea.

I've noticed the same. I have 2 types of sealers, one that secures the base pastel, then there's another one that i use to secure the rest of the 5 oclock shadow, which has a light shine, and a light skin texture. On the final cote, I hold it about 1' away, to get a light shine, but not too extreme.

Any body who thinks that my repaints are too shiny, go outside and look in a mirror. You will see the sun kinda refelcting off your skin. Especially if you're wearing a heavy wool german uniform...

Nice, you're quick on the lessons learned by Boot and Skwerl. They often strip the head and use the molded flesh colour as their base tone.

Dullcoat could be good if you give it a go. Never know until you try, and I think it could replace one or both of your current sealers. At the very least it'd be a learning experience--unless its a banned product in Cali lol.

l like the first pic the best he looks much more real then the other figs the other ones sre pretty shinny but the first fig is awsome l love his eyes they look wet.
