Hey everyone,

I'm Damian from Singapore, and this is my first post ever. I am a Vietnam War enthusiast, and I'm on the way to creating a SOG team, just for fun, dedicated to the brave men of SOG. My units are no where near perfect, and you guys will probably laugh when you see them. But I hope you guys will be patient with me, and provide feedback on my units. Thanks.

The team is RT Wyoming of Command and Control North, Special Operations Augmentation, Military Advisory Command Vietnam - Studies and Observations Group. It's three men strong so far, comprising team leader (One-Zero), assistant team leader (One-One) and team pointman.

This post has two members of the team, namely Corporal Ben Hiet, the team's Montagnard pointman, aka Eagle Eye. The next member is RT Wyoming's One-Zero Sargeant First Class Ronald Watkins, aka Boss. I used that name as that was what was written on the Dragon MACV SOG box, which the figure came in.

Ben Hiet's equipment include:
A Power Team Elite body ( Not the best of bodies, I know)
Reload Action Tiger Stripe Fatigue
Hot Toys SEAL M60 gunner vest
A bandolier of grenade rounds, unsure of brand.
A web belt with ammo carriers, water bottles, and USMC medical pouch, brand unknown
A Dragon brand knife
A Hush Puppy pistol from Hot Toys with a modified Dragon holster
A 21st Century M79
A Japanese brand AK47
A pair of smoke grenades from Power Team (in his pocket)
A sweat band I made with some camo fabric I have
A pair of Power Team boots

Ron Watkins equipment include:
Almost everything the boxed figure came with, save for the bandanna.
A Reload Action tiger stripe boonie hat
A pair of binos, brand unknown
A survival radio in his leg pocket, Power Team Elite
A Hush Puppy pistol from Hot Toys with a modified Dragon holster
A shortened M79 by 21st Century Toys, strapped to him via the same type of camo fabric as Ben Hiet's head band

Here is the third member of the team. He is Master Sargeant Brent Taylor, aka The Silent Devil. Anyway, Brent is the teams One-One and also the team's primary ambush specialist. Armed with the Sten MkII SD, he is usually the first to shoot during an ambush patrol. His weapon is stealth, and he's the team number one snatch man.

Brent Taylor's equipment include:
An Elite Force Body Builder body
A Dragon Oscar uniform set of ERDL top and Tiger Stripe pants
A ERDL camo baseball cap, brand unknown
A Dragon web belt with ammo carriers, water bottles and a USMC medical pouch
A Dragon SOG Knife
A pair of Dragon lemon grenades
A Dragon M1911 wih holster
A satchel carrying extra ammo, brand unknown
A Dragon M45 Swedish K SMG
A Dragon Sten MkII SD SMG
A pair of Power Team boots

I also added a group pic for the fun of it.

hey Bro
nice but for the team to be CCN, you'll have to lose the WWII leggings, since only Teams in CCC wore the leggings, also too tigerstripe were not worn on cross border missions, only on missions inside of Vietnam, and thirdly, the ERDL uniform really was worn for a few seconds at the end of the war say late 1971, by that time RT wyoming had already stood down and its assets scattered to the "Earth Angle" team projects.
Don't mean to bust your bubble just trying to give a little constructive critiques,
but over all nice :)

Hey,

At Mk23: Thanks for checking out my units. I will be creating the rest, you can be sure of that. The next on my list is the One Two.

At RT Habu: Thanks alot for the information. It's very helpful. I didn't know that the leggings were CCC only. Also, ERDL was out almost after the war? I figured they were in supply already during the war. Will see what I can do about that. As for tiger stripes, haha, well, I wasn't entirely into realism and although I knew that tigers were not usually used across the fence, I needed at least one unit in it to give me the real pleasure of the 'Nam. Funny, I know.

So, do you suggest that my whole team be dressed in Black Pyjamas? Need some feedback on that. Or might there be other uniform types the SOG used?

Thanks again guys.

Hey Yujin,

Thanks for the compliment. I'm working on it, don't worry. Still need to improve on the current team and get funds and everything. Money is the largest concern haha.

Also, I need to work based on what I can find. My favourite haunt now is Yellow Box at Golden Mile Tower. The are filled with loose gear and stuff. But like every other 1/6 shop I visit, 'Nam stuff is quite limited in supply. Oh well, we can't have the best of everything.

Thanks again for the warm welcome.

WELCOME to the OSW! We TRYto not only make this the coolest place , but also a fun one. IT IS NOT a site that DEMANDS total accuracy when bashing a figure. YOU decide what to bash ...not the other members. Sure, there are many members who will post that dead-on accurate bash, but that is not the OSW's purpose or goal. So, do not let any posts or comments upset you in any way....just keep the bashes coming and have fun!!One of the most violated OSW rules is...if you can't say something nice , don't say anything. When you bash a fig and you think it looks cool.... well that's all that counts. The OSW is NOT a museum where historical accuracy is a must. Again, welcome and have fun!

Hey SawGunner, Grizzerr,Mr. Petey and Uramegak,

Thanks alot for the warm welcome and reassurance. I am definitely having fun doin this and enjoying the site and what it has to offer. Alot of good ideas, inspirations, advice, and nice people. Thanks again, and glad you guys like my units. Makes me feel like doing more haha! Only problem is the bigger hole in my pocket after that.

@ Uramegak: Haha, Ben Hiet is my first ever 'Nam kitbash. Would've rather had a nicer body than a Power Team one, but it suited fine in the end. Thanks for looking and glad you like him.

Well, I'm in the process of creating my fourth team member. I hope I can get the equipment for him. Till then, cheers to all OSW members!

Hey Damian
Very happy to help,
Yes ERDLs were worn but like I said it was toward the very very last minutes of SOGs involvement, so really you would have all the Team members in ERDLs with the Yards most likely in the ARVN Ranger pattern. Ive only seen a few pix of the teams in ERDLs that why I suggested it.
OK when doing a sog team you wanna pick a year, since each year was different in the appearance of SOG. heres a few...

1967 teams mostly, and I say mostly wore the solid green jungles, and you see alot of BAR belts being worn. heagear would normally be cut down OD boonies or headscarves, sometimes NVA pith helmets too

1968 alot of teams starting wearing the black fatigues like your one figure, but again this wasnt every team and once again BAR belts

1969, my favorite, they began with the spray painted uniforms, and matching boonies and packs as well as gear was all over sprayed with black disruptive lines. as well as the solid green uniforms too and the pith helmet. This was also the time that CISO introduced the NVA copied uniform, so you might wanna have a few team members in NVA rigs usually on a team if everyone wasnt wearing the NVA uniform than the first 2 yards and an American would be wearing em. Also you see alot more teams wearing the STABOs too.

1970 still wearing the spray painted uniforms but not as much and alot of the jungle greens again, of course you wanna add additional pockets to the sleeves for the over SOG feel, and see if some one makes the XM-28 pro mask and bag, this was called the grasshopper mask since it looked like a grass hopper.
really you want the team to be somewhat uniformity, if one guy has a STABO than really everyone should have one, two radios per team, and maybe instead give the guys with the M-79s the cut down versions.

I know all this stuff isnt cheap, but have fun with them, I never leave a figure dressed the same way for long and am constanly changing em and looking for new ideas.

you have a nice group there, so enjoy yourself, take your time, Because if the figures came out of the box perfect this would be a boring hobby!!

hope I havnt discouraged you, but it seems like if anyone post a WWII german and they arnt 100% correct the wrath of god is brought down on em, I try and help out a fellow Nam enthusiast and Im repremanded! I only wanted to help you make a great team!!
