Doing a few searches on keywords like Somalia and Blackhawk Down will generate beaucoup results from the OSW archives.

Most common error that most Somalia D-Boy bashes make is using an M4. The M4 was not fielded for another year. Most of the carbines were either XM177E2/CAR15 or Colt Commandos. Some of the Colt early 723 models were available at the time, but in limited supply.

The easiest way to differentiate an M4 from its earlier predecessors is the presence of the notched barrel to accommodate a GL attachment and the rear side windage adjustment wheel.

The later version 723s did have a notched barrel, but were scarce in late 1993.

If it has a windage adjustment wheel, a notched barrel, a removable carry handle or any type of rail accessories, it is most likely an M4/M4A1 and not appropriate for this time frame.

On patrol in Mogadishu - note "full cut" Protec helmets were in use too.

Anyone hungry? :D

Hanging around...

SF museum display - rig is almost identical to the Eagle Industries "Paul Howe Universal Tactical Vest" which Toy Soldier made with their CIA/PMC figure a while back. (Paul Howe was the leader of the Delta unit deployed to Somalia with Task Force Ranger iirc). Protec is covered with 100mph tape to reduce IR signature of the plastic helmet when viewed through NVGs.

Regarding weapons - adding to what JTFazz said - I would say that the main thing is that the carbine has to have a fixed carry handle - any other feature variations(sights, barrel profile etc) are possible for 10/1993, although certain configurations may have been rare as noted.

Why don't you look at some of the vendors going (which can be found on DML's site) and then check out their websites to see if they have anything that you could use.

One of the other things you can do is go to Echo Base Toys, look under Toy Soldier box figure sets and then look for the D-Boy (Delta) Somalia section. They have a listing of all the equipment that comes with the figure and that will give you the information you need. Then you can go to the section that is "Loose Equipment" and pick up the items you need. The URL is http://www.echobasetoys.com/More_12_inch_Stuff_Pages/Toy_Soldier/TS-137.htm. You gan find the same information at Good Stuff to Go.
