Ouch. I do think the Arya photos look pretty decent. And I know Daenerys and Lin Mae were pretty big disappointments once they came out, but until then, ThreeZero has been pretty on point with their releases, so far as looking faithful to their promo pics. I'd really hope that they're aware of how pissed people are, and are trying to not repeat his going forward. I know sometimes this sort of thing is a factory issue, and sometimes there's not a lot that can be done at that point, besides not using that factory for future figures. I really do hope ThreeZero bounces back from this. They've been a pretty reliable company for a long time, so I hope this was a fluke from a new factory or something, and not indicative of them trying to cut corners from here out.

As usual I will wait to see final product before judging if worth it for the price but I think folk should be more wary about PO'ing given that 3Z missed the mark past couple releases, at least until it is confirmed to not be a phase. Rule of thumb when PO'ing (if you are considering PO'ing) is to imagine a reduction of the quality of the prototype by 10-15% and then decide if still worth the price to PO. I have always gone by that logic and made purchase decisions that way and so was only mildly disappointed by daenerys (which I think was worth the money I paid especially given that shipping was included in the price). If I had been expecting the final product to be within 5% of the proto I would have been very disappointed. So look at Arya, subtract 15% of the quality, look at the price and if you don't think it is worth it don't order, and either way, whether happy or unhappy with the purchase, send feedback about what wasn't up to standard to 3Z. They do at least respond normally (unlike certain other brands out there) and make it clear that future purchases will depend on improving quality.

I’ve seen video reviews of Lin Mae that, once a little styling product was added to the hair, the figure didn’t look THAT bad. Sure, it didn’t look exactly like the proto, but I can’t think of one figure, from any company, that has. Sometimes I think the people who take these first reveal pics are working for competing companies, or just have zero ability to do any amount of futzing and take crap pictures under less than ideal lighting, and usually with a cell phone. About the only company of late that has made absolute garbage from Proto to Production is Star Ace.

The nature and ramifications of pre-orders have changed within recent years for a variety of reasons within the 1:6 hobby for bad, good, and indifferent.

Pre-orders are promoted to ensure one is able to obtain an 1:6 offering. Pre-order deposits are required by some to ensure real/serious buyers are the ones ordering the product without the repeated cancellations due to a variety reasons. Pre-order numbers are used to estimate a production run for a 1:6 brand/manufacter.

Many reasons in varying nuances, but I do a more obvious consistency of instances from some brands where what is advertised fails to meet expectations in the final production design and quality and brand apologists/defenders/loyalists are really beginning to see how their loyalty is misplaced. threezero is one such company based on the consistency of recent blunders.

There are a few 1:6 brands with proven consistency where a pre-order can be made in confidence. threezero is not one of them. Neither is Star Ace.

Threezero is not the same level as Star Ace. Their recent 'fails' are not really fails, but they are less than expected, so I agree that people need to be wary PO'ing from them but the same can be said for any brand. I think the only company that is fairly consistent with quality is HT, but even they have occasional misfires.

The difference between 3Z and Star Ace can be demonstrated like this: The Daenerys and Lin Mae figures are fairly good so if the expectations were removed (say, they prototypes didn't look as good or 3Z only showed production samples in pre-order pics) there would not be much complaints about the figures as they are and the prices charged. Threezero shot themselves in the foot by showing amazing prototypes that they couldn't match. Star Ace on the other hand produced figures that were objectively not worth the money. Different levels, I wouldn't put them in the same category.

Let me put it this way then.

The difference between 3Z and STAR ACE is as follows.

You have a choice of going into one of two stalls. One have regular toilet paper. One have moist wipes. Both stalls don't offer toilet seat covers. You got purge a really bad number two.

So there.

it's more like two toilet stalls. one has toilet roll but it is the harder kind and that is disappointing because you are used to the luxury soft stuff. the other stall has no tissue and there is urine all over the floor. That is a more accurate description of the difference imo

I was originally going to go along the lines of what you posted, but I figured I would tone it down.
