On many I've seen, the stripes on the sleeve run the same as on the body, which means around the arm.
Armand, having the stripes run around the arms will make the pattern even easier to sew! I can cut the whole thing out in 1 piece. :)

The tayloring is nice, but the colours of Army issue jellabahs were very codified.

That's very true. I'm thinking he was going for just a generic native garment look. If so, this is fine. Cut a bit tighter, this can even be a sous-vetement for the djellabah, in which case the lighter color is ideal.

Regimental-denoting issued garments had specific woven patterns to the lines as well as colors, did they not? If so, finding fabric in scale could prove difficult.
