I'm a bit rusty on some of the system designations, it's been a while since WarPac-type stuff was deployed at these levels. The Georgians have brigades, while a news report yesterday (take those for what they are worth) claimed the Russians had pushed two divisions into Georgia. It's interesting that so far the BMPs shown are the -1s. It seems the Ossetians have a number of aircraft as well as T-72 MBTs.

Yeah Kenny, one of the guys brought up the MARPAT in OT section, there's some more pics there. The Marines trained Georgian troops, looks like the GAs liked the Uniform. Interesting mixes of old and new uniforms and body armors and LBEs.

Better it had never happened at all, but the point of this thread is to describe the systems and combatants. The tragedy of it all is sadly recorded on many other sites.

it`s georgia using marpat and acu too???
The Georgians trained with US Marines, I'm guessing that's how they decided on a version of MARPAT. Speculating again here, but the ACU guy might've acquired those in Iraq, or by private purchase....or the story might be even more interesting than that.

Having no luck in posting a bunch of shots, I'm trying a few at a time. The intent here is to present examples to inspire bashups and indicate the wide variety of kit and equipment.

Pictures are from various sites like "The Art of War" (http://www.navoine.ru), the excellent THEATRUM BELLI (http://www.flickr.com/photos/theatrum-belli), and a number of discussion boards.

Russian forces in a recent pic (specops?). Note the can on the weapon, on the left. Also, the Gorka-type windproof.

Russian snipers or "designated marksmen". Trousers from the 2 piece windproof,
as well as what appears to be KMLK camo suits.

In keeping with the emphasis on the Russian forces, more pics including "other units". Lots of players in this conflict.

Chechens -

ID'd as Chechens

Identified as Chechen special forces from Vostok East army

Chechens were identified as some sources as being Kadyrov's men, or those of Yamadaev, his rival. Chechens as Russian allies seems surprising, but politics, rivalries, and opportunity are no doubt motivations.

Contract Forces

These guys riding a BMD-2, may be Russian military, or possible kontraktniki (speculation on my part), which reportedly make up a percentage of Russian forces. Like the US, such contracting is done to retain experience and skills, as an adjunct to regular forces. Appearance of a semblance of uniformity and organization might indicate such "specialists", but given the range of unis and gear fielded, not a guarantee.

Separatist Forces

South Ossetians

Abkhazians

State Assets?

This crew caught the attention of a number of commentators, and was described at one point as being GRU - Russian Intel Agency. They don't appear to be camera-shy. That aside, they have an interesting lot of uniforms, gear and weapons.

I thought it might be an SV-98, or one of the other homegrown AI-looking systems. Still, with a proper budget, specialist troops could get just about anything.

As far as the ACU's that you might see, we traded some sets while we were there to the troops we were training along with some other stuff they couldnt get, like good knifes. I hope Mickael put my Emerson to good use.
