Just wondering... I've got a Soldier Story Interceptor vest that I'd like to use in a kitbash with some BBI ACUs, and I'd like to try and get the colours to match up a little better by darkening the SS vest, and I'm curious to know what sort of techniques one might use to achieve that end. I seem to recall a discussion about using tea to darken the DML desert MARPAT uniforms a while back, for example.

While I haven't seen the SS ACU's in person, if they're too light, the TS ones are a fair bit lighter than the bbi ones. Maybe they'd be a closer match.

They are, actually. I just prefer to use the BBI ACUs because I've only got one set of the TS version, and no TS MICH helmets, only BBI.

Well, the photos I've seen generally seem to show that the helmets and IBAs tend to be darker/more faded than the ACU jacket and trousers... I'm kind of hoping to replicate this. Besides, I really hate that blue tint. :green

Yeah, thats part of my love/hate relationship with the ACU's. The blue'ish tint that can be seen. But then, it all depends on the lighting, how clean/dirty they are, how old and faded, but I have also seen from a pinkish tan and green hue to a down right GRAY and White.

Guess that is why we would sometimes mockingly call them " ICU's"

Yeah, I'm kind of hoping to replicate the look of that one fellow in the photo GrenadierStinny posted a while back in the "Dirty ACU vs Clean ACU" thread, with the darkened, faded vest and lighter-coloured uniform, but the vest I want to use for it is currently lighter than the uniform. :green

About tea, though, any recommendations on what sort to use?

You could just give it a good brushing over with some pastels to darken it a bit. The pic that you refered is just a dirty vest and helmet cover ( which they tend to get REALLY quick :lol ) worn with some clean(er) , but somewhat faded ACU's.

Hmm, what kind of pastels? Alternately, I'd be happy if I could just get the tint of the vest to match the uniform a little better.
