I didn't think I would like Daniel Craig as Bond, but he's pretty good. Casino Royale was great, but it was supposed to be the first Bond film, but it didn't follow the timeline very well. If they would have referred to his first assignment as being in Czechoslovakia instead of the Czech Republic it would have fixed everything to my satisfaction. As it is, it makes it look like Bond has only had his double-Oh status since post-1993.

Anyone who likes Daniel Craig and English movies needs to see Layer Cake.

PD - I couldn't agree more. After that last Pierce Brosnan piece of crap I had just about given up on Bond. The Bond gadgets were just getting too silly. I like the stripped down bare knuckle version.

The producers of the film said Casino Royale was meant to be the first of a new, re-imagined Bond series. That would explain deviating from any existing Bond mythology.

I've always been a fan of the old Moore/Connery films, as cheesy as they were, but stopped watching after Living Daylights. The pretty-boy B.S. and stupid gadgets, combined with the need to make every Bond film prior to Casino into a BMW commercial really turned me off. Craig's Bond kicks ass.
