Swore in to the Marine Corps I ship out September 17th, I'm deciding my job later this week. I scored a 79 on the ASVAB and qualify for any job according to the recruiters I'm leaning toward the infantry side to then take up OCS (officer candidate school) after wards and maybe even recon but its all in the talks. Just part of the Delayed Entry program as of right now but I graduate in May. Just felt I'd let you guys know.

Good luck to you. If you can qualify for any job in the Corps, make sure it will be something you can use in the civilian world, whether in 4 years or after 20 years.
Get all your schooling promises in writing.

As you may have noticed, there are a lot of members here who are or were members of the armed forces. There are a few old devil dogs here that you can ask for advices and tips as well. But one thing for certain is that you will have to condition your body and mind, especially the physical part. Get ready to get yelled at, do strenuous activities, and learn everything about the Corps within a few months, all to make you become a true United States Marine. I wish you luck and fortitude brother, and I hope to see you one day in the fleet. :thumb

-from your lowly hn (fmf).

EDIT: take note what vince said too. Take advantage of the educational opportunities when you get in.

Forgot to mention, take all the service schools that you can or are offered.
It is the best way of advancement in the military.
Again, stick to the service schools that will benefit you on the outside.

I am still new and have not posted much here but I wanted to say awesome and congratulations for making the choice. You are right it is a big step but its a step towards something..... The biggest thing in life to move ahead is we have to have faith in something / anything..... That first step is what makes us take the next one

Nick - big congratulations on this.
In the strongest possible terms, I recommend you take OCS. You should take OCS. You should REALLY take OCS. I am seriously not joking, take OCS if you have the chance, do not miss out on it.
Just remember - it's only boot camp. It'll get better once you're out, but parts will definitely still suck. If you can, I strongly recommend that you look at the Intelligence field - the Corps has an excellent school at Dam Neck. Read up on boot and learn what to expect (train accordingly). Most of all, good luck!

Congratulations, Nick, and thank you for deciding to serve our country.

The only advice I can offer you right now is to get yourself in shape-- start running every day, also do pushups and situps every day. It'll pay off for you when you get to basic. Also, pay close attention to what your instructors say to you, no matter how insignificant it may seem. They want you to succeed, despite appearances to the contrary.
