After many emails sent to Louie of Triad Toys since last December, we have finally received a reply from him yesterday.
Our company has been wrongfully accused and attacked by Louie and others on various forums. We now would like to post a letter on OSW to the public as well as to Louie to discuss the matter at hand.

After we displayed the prototype of our S2 body on OSW, Louie of Triad Toys stated in his very first post on the Triad Forum, accusing the factory that Triad was in works with, provided the molds to Soldier Story. We want to make it clear that the mold that we used to produce the Soldier Story S2 body prototype was NOT given by Triad's factory or anyone else. We developed and created our own mold for the S2 body. If in fact Triad's factory were giving away the molds to other companies, Louie should be accusing and taking legal action against his own factory instead of slandering Soldier Story's reputation publicly.

In supporting the growth of our product lines, as well as keeping our customers happy, we believe that a new male and female body needs to be made. During the S2 research and development process, we studied all of the existing body designs and explored each design's strong and weak points to try and come up with our own body type that we feel is best for the market. And if we are guilty of anything, some of the S2 features may have similarities to one or more of the body designs that we've researched. This is probably the basic procedure for many that are developing a new product and we believe that Louie is not excluded from this.

In a malicious attempt to insult Soldier Story product's quality, Louie put up a video on OSW and YouTube. However, the body that was displayed on the video was not the S2 body that Soldier Story is producing and that probably the Evo body that Triad trying to produce. Louie himself knows where our factory is to produce Soldier Story's bodies because he went to the site before for inspection. Triad falsely accused S.S. of producing inferior product but Triad still carried their product and even put their logo on the packaging. And some forum members can even point out that the body shown on the video was not the same of our S2 body prototype.

After we changed distribution channel of Soldier Story brand products, we still considered Triad as our product development partners. As evidence of our partnership we supplied Triad with the S1 Female Body and head sculpts. Until they chose to go their own route by not fulfilling the payment and cut off all communications with us. This in turn we felt we had no other option but to go on our own to develop and market our own products.

Soldier Story was questioned by another U.S. toy company accessing Soldier Story of not delivering a specific production run of action figures that you, Louie Tran, representing Triad in conjunction with Soldier Story never delivered. According to this company, Louie had Soldier Story manufacturing this specific run but S.S. never knew anything about. Please contact this company immediately so that you can make them aware that S.S. never had any part or knowledge in the production, design, or delivery of this specific product so that our company's name can be taken out of the law suit.

All in all, after we announced the S2 Body, Louie accused us of stealing his mold and violating the copyrights and patent of the Triad's body design. If Louie feels that Soldier Story violated your copyright and patent then supply us with the supporting documents and take a more normal procedure in taking legal action and not denounce our products and reputation publicly.

In the email that was sent to us yesterday, you stated that you will pay by the end of the month. Even though, that payment was agreed to have been made at the end of the month of December of 2007, we will show good faith and allow payment to be made at the end of this month. If, the payment is not fulfilled by the end of this month we will take legal action of our own.

I don't know who did what and if it was right or wrong for them to do it.

I'm think Hardcase was right when he said the scat was about to hit the fan.

I'm declaring neutrality and digging the deepest hole I can.

1/6 scale drama. I have some SS products and love them. I do not own any Triad stuff, but it all looks pretty cool. There are so many similarities in so many different companies products. I hope this gets ironed out and that both companies continue to produce top notch products.

And there you have it, spoken like a gentleman.

No need for public slander, thats not the way to get your voice heard. Just a formal letter will do it. The consumers will decide in the end.

Perhaps the 2 parties can deal with it privately so that the hobbyists can move on with thier 1/6th lives. Opinions are welcome but this is an issue that they should deal with on their own.

We'll know the outcome when we see whichever company's label is packaged with the body.

No more drama please. Lets add to our plastic crack addiction. I'm sure we can all agree on that.

As urban-samurai puts it in the previous post, whoever is wrong or right is up to us consumers to decide.

As for me, I'll remain neutral. My only role as a consumer is getting the stuff I want regardless of which manufacturers for my present and future kitbashes. I'm certainly not getting myself involved in any complex legal wrangling that ain't affiliated with me.

Excellent. Hope both sides can establish some kind of amicable relationship so they can focus their efforts on producing some fantastically creative stuff for us. :)

Err... i think what urban-samurai is trying to say is let the two parties decide on their own who is right or wrong, and if that is not possible, let the courts decide...

As for us consumers, (if we are indeed rational consumers as defined in economics free-market) I don't really give a hoot about the whole drama if I can continue to purchase good quality products at low prices. :knock Boycotting of goods due to unfair trade, exploitation of labour, and violation of intellectual property are due to 'values education' impacting the consumer, which is actually 'irrational' in economics sense.

Like it or not, the idea of intellectual property is still secondary in newly-developed countries where manufacturers are cutting each other's throat in a bid to reduce cost and boost sales in a highly-competitive market...

Well... the plot thickens.
Anyway, both companies have had their say, time to move on.
I'd suggest both parties refrain from posting any more threads and deal with their problems and differences away from the public's eye.

Sounds like a partnership gone bad.

OK, it is becoming a legal issue that is above my pay grade. I do care that there is integrity among players. However, I am not in the position to be the judge. Both houses put out excellent stuff and I have numerous products from both.

For the customers sake, please work this out so we, your loving consumers, can enjoy what you both are good at; "Making wonderful 1:6th Scale items"!!!

Thank You!
