Making a Diemaco - a question

I want to make a couple of Diemaco variants. How much would it take to make one from a stock M4?

The major difference as far as I can see is the barrel - most other detail would be lost at this scale. Anyone got any hints/ tips/ ideas?

Also which would be the best donor, DML or BBI etc and which version (there's a lot out there)

Which variant are you trying to built? C8 Carbine? Id use a DML XM177, cut off the barrel, and add a DML M16A2 barrel.

All it is is a mod M4 and the barrel would be easy to change/mod.

Very nice that, what did you use as the donor weapon?

Pretty much I took a old Plastic version <not the metal> M16A4 from BBI, Shorten down the barrel using a X-Acto Saw. Then use a small piece metal rod piece between the Flashhider and Barrel. Zap them tow piece together. Next, I took the the old stock from 21st Century Mk48 SEAL LMG. Cut off the old Soild stock and attached the Slither Stock. Did the same thing, made a small pin then glue the stock to the receiver.

The Mag is made with Styrene. Kinda forgotten What I used to make it.

No problem, I wish I had another M16 laying around and I can show you a step to step photo of the project.

Note the features listed on the Diemaco site for the SFW - as far as I can tell these are the major ones that differ from the M4:

1. 16" heavy barrel
5. Rail on left side of sight block
10. Sling loop at rear of receiver
11. Rubber butt pad on stock

Here's what I have thought up as possible methods(just some ideas, I haven't tried them yet!):

1. Replace barrel with 16" custom one - either cut up another rifle barrel or use styrene tubing - then use a couple of sections of heat-shrink tube to get the different thickness profile.

5. Use a DML side sling mount(came on some of their M4s) - cut off the sling swivel and glue on a piece of rail.

10. Styrene sheet trimmed to shape I guess(or just ignore it).

11. Cheat - use the new TS M4(90's Ranger Mullen), it has a rubber butt pad already!
