Didnt really care for the movies, but I could use some great Heston sculpts.

 

Sideshows Ape figures were pretty good but there Heston figure was weak. I'd love to at least see a goood Hestopn figure and an Ape Soldier from Hot Toys.

Some of the Sideshow figures were good. Taylor and Nova definitely need to be redone.

Nova was admittedly weak and on a craptastical body it made it even worse. But, the hestons were not terrible and don't "need" to be revisited before a decent brent is delivered.

I can't really think of any other characters I'd want to spend $100 on that Sideshow didn't already do ...

I guess a CONQUEST Gorilla slave would be pretty cool though

 

i hope i'm wrong, but i have a feeling their military line will slow down a bit with all of these licensed figures.

 

I just picked up Zira and the Mutant Leader. Some Gorilla's and Ape soldiers would be a nice addition.

Let's hope HOT TOYS can cool down their prices! I do not want to spend $180 on a figure. Period. And... let's hope these apes have real hair like the APEXPLORERS line from Winson Ma!

 

I am not sure how well i like this announcement. Every Hot Toys' and Sideshow Toys' line i collect doesnt conflict with each other. I dont want to pay triple for a figure thats already produced that i have.

I agree! :agree I would really want to see these two done. The gorillas in the new Planet of the Apes were awesome. Trying to reproduce hair of that quality in 1/6th would be tough. Have to be like a mohair paint roller.

 

No point in getting these apes unless they are made of a special fur...

I think the problem with Brent is that the estate of James Franciscus won't grant likeness rights...but we'll see. Meanwhile, Ada Chan did a Brent head that was one of her better efforts.

 

Yes, that was the second story Sideshow gave for the crappy Brent. And it would have been cool if they hadn't first said that the licensor had already approved it and it was in production, unable to be changed.
Ada's isn't bad. I'll know exactly how much I like it or not once it gets painted. I'd like to see Ada take on the task of sculpting one of the simian characters.

 

I don't get this. Why get a license that SST delivered a complete line of well done figures of? Are people really going to pay $100+ to upgrade?

I hate to say this, but after Hasbro and Sideshow...I really, really don't think the world needs more APES figures. And i agree, once you get the Heston figure, alot of us are done.

And I also agree....there are much better properties to tap. Where are my DUNE figures
What about an Aliens reissue.....they built the Tumbler, time to build the Aliens APC!

Ghostbusters is a good call....its a classic "everyone knows it" film with 3 main characters that could share 90% of the equipment

Actually after Hasbro's and Sideshow's (but mostly Hasbro's) how could you NOT want better apes? Heston and you're done? Its Planet of the APES.
As to much better properties, I guess that depends on what you're a fan of. I couldn't care less about Dune figures or anything but parted out heads from Ghostbusters.

 

Ghostbusters won't sign off on likeness rights. And Dune is a bomb property on which any company would take a beating.

 

Yeah, she was incredible. If you release a new Nova you will almost have to release a new Taylor to go with her. Maybe Hot Toys can actually bring these in under $100. Don't see where they need a lot of accessories.

 

True. Most of the accessories are reuseable with other characters. the uniforms are too with the exception of a tweak here and there or changing the glyphs. Perhaps this could actually be the start of lower pricepointed quality figures from Hot Toys. Either way:

The remake is never going to win any awards but I think the ape hair on the gorillas in the remake is really very nice.
