Private, 5th Virginia Cavalry (PHOTOS FIXED!!!)

Part of General Fitzhugh Lee’s Brigade of Stuart’s Cavalry Division, the 5th Virginia Cavalry had about 150 men at Gettysburg, commanded By George Custer’s old West Point room mate Colonel Thomas Rosser. They participated in the cavalry engagement on the Rummel Farm, East of Gettysburg. This trooper is armed with a Sharp’s carbine, two Colt Navy revolvers and a Model 1860 cavalry saber. He wears a pair of captured union trousers and the jacket that inspired this figure, copied from an original owned by Private Andrew Diggs, who was killed in 1862. The jacket has yellow piping (for cavalry) and US eagle buttons, and started out as a SST Infantry Bugler jacket. The hs was painted by my friend, Gordon (UberGeek/Glenlyon). He is currently displayed at the Lincoln Train Museum in Gettysburg.

And here is how he looks displayed at the Lincoln Train Museum:

Nicely done. That first pic is my favorite. As others said, really cool to see CW figures.

Great job ! I love history especially the Civil War, wish more people would learn about and respect history for what it was and not try to impose current ideas into it.

Sorry for having to ask, but not being an American myself, I am puzzled by your comment. Could you further elaborate on it?

One of my favorite aspects of this hobby is when someone begins to create their own figures and takes on new skills to produce them. You've done a great job at it and produced a figure you can be justifiably proud of.

My only negative comment would be the yellow piping on the jacket around the collar, sleeves, and pockets. It just looks a little rough and out of scale but I'm not sure how one would do something better. Did you try some other ways of doing it?

At any rate, you've presented a fine figure and I look forward to seeing your future efforts as well. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I agree it's a bit heavy. It was the lightest cord I could use that still covered the SST painted piping. Thanks for the comments, and critiques are always welcome. That's how we learn!
