Why the lack of 1/6th Scale Civil War items ?

    Hi everyone

I have noticed over the past 3 years a lot of WW2 1/6th scale items out there , tents, jeeps , tanks ect , ect you name it .
But a lack of Civil War Items ? why ?, Yes I know about BattleGeartoys Civil War items and some of them are nice , and some show they did not bother to research and are wrong ,such as their C.S.A great coats are Union pattern great coats and the Union Great Coats are C.S.A great coats, or made wrong such as the straps on the haversacks and cartridge box " too short "

I know there are 1/6th scale Civil War Cannons with limbers out there even 1/6th scale Civil War horse saddles but hardly anything else , such as Tents , wagons , Sutlers wagons , axes , period correct lanterns, shovels , spades, cooking gear , barrels , buckets , ammo boxes , chests ect, ect, ect .

Why the lack of these items ?, just wondering

    Thanks guys

Hello, this may be a predictable answer, but...

Most of the 1:6 toys are made in factories in Asia, and those companies tend to make what appeals to an Asian and worldwide market, not necessarily just an American market, which includes WWII, modern special forces, and increasingly female figures.

Take the case of Dragon Models Ltd., a company that practically specialized in WWII German figures in its heyday in the 2000s.

There is also the phenomena there are conflicts that seem to spark more interest among collectors, such as WWII and Vietnam. The Korean conflict and WWI are just not as popular, IMHO.

The Sideshow "Brotherhood of Arms" line, and lesser quality Soldiers of the World and Hasbro American Civil War figures are really the only lines and those are out of production and found mostly only on Ebay.

Of course, Battlegear Toys specializes in American military, particularly American Civil War.

The combination of Battlegear Toys and the reselling of Sideshow parts on Ebay arguably is enough to sustain that small (and perhaps shrinking) niche.

Certainly an enterprising customizer, particularly someone who might be able to produce casts or digital prints, might find some success selling more accurate or missing ACW parts. You might be able to commission some of these pieces you seek and/or set out to fill those gaps. Sounds like an interesting challenge.

    That about says it all.
If you're not familiar, here are a couple of sites with CW figures. The original 6th Brigade (that got me and a lot of others started) is pretty dormant, but there are a lot of good posts to learn from. Check out the archives, too.

Yes , that about says it all .

Stuff I have made for my 16th scale winter quarters that I could not find online, frying pan made from soda top, ammo crates, and wooden lantern, camp bed. Stuff I have made to sell , ammo boxes , canvas back folding chairs , Bowie knives , and a few tables made of oak or pine , small , med , large

What I am working on now is making another type of Civil War canvas back chair to sell , and make 1/6th scale Aluminium bayonets to replace the sorry plastic ones from B.G.T for my 1/6th scale muskets , maybe make 1/6th scale Civil War era wagon , I know of a website that makes the wheels I just got to make the wagon

There are not enough collectors for this era to make the production of items interesting for any company. Everyone here who is collecting napoleonic items has the same problem. It´s like jeffajab said, try to get your hands on Sideshows "BOA Series" or on parts from battlegear toys, there is not much more on the market. There are some craftsman who make saddles for example, mine were all done by Jean Ross but anything else might never be produced.

If you want specialising in Civil War for yourself you may easily try to find items (sadles, for example, not very specific historical part as 1:6 goods) in a sets of same period or make smthng at the end. Besides, If I'm not mistaken, not so long ago there were serial figures based on the movie " The hateful eight".

    Hi,
I'm agree with you, this is why I made some weapons for ACW : Starr model 1863 revolver, Smith carbine model 1863, several Lefaucheux model 1858 revolvers, Colt dragoons (2d et 3rd model),... all of them are 3d print....
