    US Army Side Arm ??? from late 70's to early 80's??

    Looking for a little help with the ?? in the title. Bash for early Late 70's-early to mid 80's US Army or Special Forces. Need side arm info. Any help would be appreciated.

    That would be the 1911A1 .45ACP semiautomatic pistol.
    .38 caliber Smith and Wesson revolvers were carried in some instances.
    Non-issue handguns were also carried by some individuals.

    Thanks for the responses. I thought that would be the case. Would they use the black leather holster like in Nam or the green (not sur of the name) like the 21st C ones that came with their early ranger sets? Thanks!

    the holsters of the 70s/80s (shoulder or standard belt hanger)would most likely be black leather and shiny.the worn brown leather ones of WW2 vintage probably looked a little too 'salty' for the delicate sensibilties of post nam 'e-ring commandos' and 'ring knockers' who made the rules regarding uniforms.general officers had a special issue auto loader..but i'm not sure of the caliber.looked like a cut down .45,but i think it was .38 or .380..not sure.some special ops types used whatever they wanted....brownings, berretas(yes..even before they were issued) and i know seal team 8(or was it 6?) liked .357 revolvers..in chrome.
