    SDKFZ 250 Crew question

Can a use the dragon panzer crew Johann Meiling for my SDKFZ 250 ?
And also the panzer MG 34 which comes with him.

Were these half tracks also manned by soldiers in panzer uniforms?

Hopefully someone has some info for me

    Thanks.

What year are you looking to replicate ??? Early war maybe, but I always thought the half track crews wore green/gray and later in the war camo panzer wraps, can anyone help me with this ???? As for the MG-34 they used them all through the war.

    Re: SDKFZ 250 Crew question

I want to make an early war sdkfz crew of the wehrmacht, 1940 - 1942.

Pictures of the crew wearing the black panzer uniforms are rare.

    Re: SDKFZ 250 Crew question

    Heya, Dutchman!

Here's the dude in question: http://dragon-models.com/d-m-item.asp?pid=DRF70452

The MG 34 he has is the armored barrel variant (MG 34 Panzerlauf), designed for ball mounting in tanks or other armored vehicles. The more usual armament on a Sdkfz 250 would be the plain infantry type MG 34 or MG 42.

Info on the MG 34: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MG_34

As to the possibility of an armored branch guy being in a halftrack, I'd have to think that at the battalion or regimental level there would be armored halftracks either for command or recon purposes, and it wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility that the crew would be panzermen or that it'd be armed with a panzerlauf MG.

If it looks good to you, do it.

    Re: SDKFZ 250 Crew question

    Hello Russ,

Thanks for all this info, it is very helpfull.

I am waiting for my Toawan SDKFZ250 to arrive and I am planning to
put a normal MG34 at the front and the panzer MG34 at the back of the truck.

As I do not have any panzer crew in my collection I thought it would be
nice if I used one for my half truck, but it has to be historical correct.

    Re: SDKFZ 250 Crew question

I would stay away from the armoured MG34.
As for the black wrap uni, as mentioned above it could be a vehicle in a HQ group or command support vehicle. As for recon units(A.A.), crews of armoured cars(222,232,234,250/9 etc) wore black. The piping varied from division to division and mostly wore yellow gold or pink. A HQ or command vehicle from such an unut could be wearing black. Fielg gray wraps were the norm for A.A. halftracks in non armoured car units.

Or is it possible to use Panzer Pioneers for the SDKFZ 250 ?
