"Private" Joker [Full Metal Jacket] custom figure

(actually Sgt. by that point in the film)

With the Fairly recent Platoon figures from HotToys, I bought Chris and Sgt. Barnes but the vietnam (film) figure I REALLY wanted to display was Joker from Full Metal Jacket.

I bought a loose body from ACI toys, used the head that I HAD been using on my Nathan Drake figure and added glasses by DID.
BDUs, suspenders, and Helmet are from the HotToys Sgt. Barnes figure with the division patch removed.
Pouches are also from the Barnes figure and canteens are dyed WWII canteen pouches (with the canteens modified to resemble Nam canteens).
    Boots are modern and re-painted.
Camera, flak jacket, and bandolier.. not sure where I got them :P

Okay, that is very cool subject and figure. Good likeness too. The flak jacket should be OD green, but you probably know that.

yeah.. I might end up having to make a proper flak jacket but this one works for now. The fun part was freezing the film over and over to get the markings on the Helmet right.

I know how that goes. I've seen Black Hawk Down probably a thousand times to study Eric Bana/Hoot Gibson's load out and other characters for BHD bashes I've done.

Re: "Private" Joker [Full Metal Jacket] custom figure

Man, that is just excellent bud. They just put Full Metal Jacket up on Netflix instant, so I'm gonna watch it again tonight. Also, just to re-iterate, the flak jacket is all wrong. That is like a 1st Gulf War era PASGT flak jacket, so that definitely needs to be changed out. DML makes a pretty nice Vietnam era Army flak vest, and Wild Works makes a nice USMC version. But don't get me wrong, other than that, you REALLY nailed the figure, spot on.

EDIT: I have a pretty nice TUS Vietnam flak jacket. PM me, and I will mail it to you, gratis as a stand in.

    @MediumMack
    Thank you. I appreciate it.
    I sent you a PM.

@ everyone else, thanks guys. I spent like two days watching the various scenes and making notes about what he had and where. In the end, I got two ammo pouches and three canteens. Four grenades and a crappy M16 that I replaced the barrel on.
Technically, the camera is wrong too (should be a nikon and this doesn't appear to be) but all told, I was lucky to get most of the parts. I actually started looking online for patterns for the period flack (flak?) vests but haven't made much progress. If I do ever find one, I can sew as many as I need/want, in fact I'll probably make one for my Barnes figure too.

    Excellent work!
The face of the real Jocker is a little bit skinny but it's very difficult to find the right head when you costumize like that, begin from nothing.
I appreciate the details, now I'm dreaming to see an "Animal" custom figure from you in the future

Very nicely done!! That HS really does look like him. I've been doing a couple of Nam bashes as well and it's tough to find a decent M16 these days.

I too have a spare DML flak - but I guess you're set now.

Cool Joker, d Jedi. The helmet cover must have been fun to do and the peace pin is a nice touch.
If I may suggest something, you should outline the edges of the pin in the same silver paint.

You're quite right. When I get the new Flak Jacket, I'll make him a new pin and I WILL do it on the new one.
(I'll probably do this one too)

Quick note.. the pin is actually just a piece of styrene that I cut using a tool for making holes in leather belts.
I originally bought it to make (much smaller) shirt and suit jacket buttons with.

BTW thank you to everyone. I know I post some random stuff on here.. some gets a bit of attention, most does not but I'm glad to have created something that MANY seem to enjoy.
Bout time I did something right

I agree with everyone else here....
aside from the Flak vest and the Peace button,
I feel that you did an Outstanding job!!

BTW You mentioned changing the barrel on the M16,
I sell the barrel you need here:

I think # 7 is what you need.
