    1/6 Maxim machine gun?

I am relatively new to the 1/6 scale hobby, however I have been plagued with one question since day one.

Where is the 1/6 Maxim machine gun?

No, I am not referring to the Russian wheeled kind. Nor am I referring to kitbashing a Vickers .30 cal or a .30 cal M 1917 A1.

I am talking about your traditional, two-handle, sled-mounted MG08 German WW1 style Maxim.

The kind that would have a removable disk at the muzzle (very schwarzlose-looking when it is attached).

Why don't we have one? What is the excuse? This is THE machine gun of WW1, not to mention its heavy use in subsequent conflicts like the Chinese civil war.

    Anybody have any ideas?

You kind of answered your own question. Both of the conflicts you listed are not exactly big selling points. Yes, there are many WW1 fans on this forum, but Sideshow Toys put out a line of WW1 figures years ago, and then stopped after releasing some really nice sets. Why? Probably didn't sell as well as hoped. As for the Chinese Civil War? Well...

However, Battlegear Toys is entering the WW1 game, so maybe there's a glimmer of hope, but who knows?

In the mean time, if you really must have a Maxim, you might try looking at the R/C airplane crowd, for WW1 aircraft armament. I picked up kits for the Spandau, and Vickers MG's, though I don't know for sure if there is a Maxim, but it might be a good place to start looking.

After a certain amount of obscurity you might as well give scratch building a try.

William Brothers kits of WWI aircraft armament kits are perfect and are
still readily available at most R/C hobby shops. Btw, these also come in 1/6 scale!

My Maxim's barrel was way too short. I converted an American Maxim but didn't lengthen the barrel. The best part of that piece was the ammo can.
Dragon are about to release a German WW2 figure with the Maxim on a tripod stand so you just might get what you want yet.
