HT Movie Masterpiece 《Platoon》 Bob Barnes

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

overall for me its a very nice figure, but i was hoping hot toys should have put two rifles 1. a xm177e2 based on the real rifle used in nam. 2. colt 653 and 653p based on the rifle used in the movies,...still hoping they'll do it to elias......

I find it astonishing that they do not significantly modify their weapons molds. That isn't like Dragon using the same gas mask bag or cigarette packs for all their figures. It is a significant point of accuracy, whether it is the movie or real life. This means that I buy a figure for all it is worth, but have to throw away the weapons because they are just plain retarded. If their attitude is that it just doesn't matter or it is a way to save $$, well, I have two answers.

If it doesn't matter, why not just re-dye a set of BDU's and sets of MOLLE gear a Vietnam OD from previous figures. In fact, they should just re-use existing uniforms and products for all of their figures since the headsculpt would be the only significant change with which they would have to worry.

If it is to save money, then the cost clearly isn't coming down in any appreciable way. If I paid $40 for a figure, I could throw away inaccurate parts. But for $145-149 the whole thing ought to be damned spot on!

You guys are going to hate me but it looks like the jungle fatigues are wrong. Army issue didn't have epaulets.

(I wore them the first 4 years in the Army).

I know DML's Nate figure had epaulets and buttons but I figured it was a very early version of the uniform that maybe Marines were issued.

I know several foreign country's copy of the jungle fatigues have epaulets (primarily S. America).

The 1st and 2nd pattern Tropical Combat uniform did have epaulets. They were removed on later production variants of the 2nd pattern and the 3rd pattern didn't have them at all. All three patterns were issued to US Army soldiers.

If these "Platoon" figures do well....what are the chance's Hot Toys go straight in to "Apocalypse Now".....Colonel Kilgore & Captain Willard next to these figure's would make a stunning display....or even...."Full Metal Jacket" figures?.
Chelseaboy.

Rod,

I don't have screen stills, but Barnes didn't have epaulets in the movie. Taylor's jacket had them in the very last scenes (particularly noticeable as he gets up following the snake & nape strike at the end). This one is an example of a type II jacket.

Elias' heavily altered jacket also has epaulets.

Here are a couple of photos which agree with the above quote:

Barnes is wearing a 3rd pattern jacket as evidenced by the extra piece of reinforcing/padding fabric across the shoulders of the jacket.

major.rod - the 3rd pattern uniform was issued starting in 1966 so if the vets you have spoken to were in Vietnam later than 1965-66 they might never have seen/been issued the earlier pattern uniforms.
