This figure is a young platoon leader of the United States Expeditionary Force sent to stem the tide of the Federation of Democratic Socialist Republics. This is the first military conflict the United States has been involved in since the final withdrawal of the remaining allied forces in the Middle East in 2013.
Due to the conflict in the Middle East and a string of devastating natural disasters that landed on her own soil the United States had driven herself to near bankruptcy. The United States had withdrawn to face it's second Great Depression. During the intervening years the United States took on an extremely isolationist view while it rebuilt and it left the world to it's own devices.
The war in the Middle East did not end with the withdrawal of the Western Nations, localised conflicts between the various religious sects soon became full scale war across the whole of the Middle East. The areas oil production soon ground to a halt. The earlier wars in the Middle East had already taken their toll upon the worlds fuel supply, but as the cost of oil spiraled out of control the world was caught in the grip of a hyperinflation never before seen. Riots over food shortages, job loss, and fuel supply popped up all over the world. No country was immune to them. The West was able to suppress all but the worst of the rioting, but the third world was in total chaos. This unrest soon grew into all out war that ran from the western Coast of Africa to the Eastern coast of Asia. Africa was covered in tribal and racial wars, the Middle East was caught up in holy wars, and Asia found itself in a mixture of conflicts from religious fundamentalism to colonial feuding.
During this time period the world's first Atomic Exchange occured. Long standing rivalries between Pakistan and India boiled over into full scale nuclear war. Although it was only a small limited exchange the resulting fallout left most of southern Asia in ruins. Almost all exportation of goods and food halted from the East.
There was no longer a United Nations to halt this turmoil. They had disbanded after a movement lead by Germany, France, and Russia because of the growing rift over the United States war in Iraq. These three nations had long sat back while the United States and her remaining allies battled themselves to the brink of bankruptcy. When the new wars first broke out they proposed a new league of western nations called the Federation of Democratic Socialist Republics. England was the only European nation to openly oppose the formation. Soon most of Europe had joined whether willingly or through fear of economic blockade.
What began as a peaceful movement among Europe had finally cast off the mask of peace as it sent troops to the devastated parts of the world to "restore order" after 10 years of war. Although the third world was their intended target it was not long before other nations felt their wrath. England, long opposed to the federation, had been left with economic embargoes forced upon it. All of Englands former colonial countries, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand were dealt with in the same manner.
With the Federation forcing it's will upon the rest of the world, England and her former allies reverted back to methods it had employed during the reign of the Axis in the mid 20th century. They had secretly began giving aid and training guerrila forces throughout the third world. It was not long before the Federation declared war upon England as well and began it's air offensive upon her and her allies. An unlikely ally was gained as the Federation moved into China while spreading throughout Asia. Although China was still fairly stable, the Federation became involved in border disputes as it gave chase to guerrilas fleeing India.
Although the United States had withdrawn from the world militarily, she had continued to strengthen economic ties to China and Japan. So that when the atomic disaster occured the United States had become the two nations benefactor providing humanitarian aid. So much like the Second World War, the United States was pulling itself out of a depression through the use of her production and agricultural abilities and was providing aid to countries when she herself became a target. With China and England now at war with the Federation the freighters of the US began to be caught in the crosshairs of the Federation. These attacks coupled with cries of help from the rest of the world forced the hand of the US after nearly 20 years of isolationism to enter into what would later be known as the Third World War.
