Quick photo studio? what do I need?

I have some spare room in the garage, I would like to know of any easy ideas for setting up a little photo studio to take pictures of my figures.
White back ground? should I use a sheet or use white paper?

lighting? should I use two small lamps (the clip type)?
what direction should I aim them at the figures?

How do I not get shadows? or please let me know how to take a good shot that does not involve the flash, which makes the faces appear to be really bright.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are some great photograpy studio setups in the photography section Id do a search there.

Use more lamps (four is a good number) if you can, but make sure the color temperature of each lamp is close (use the same kind of bulbs). Aim two at the background, and two at the front of the figure from behind the camera position, off to the side, downwards from an elevated position.

I'll come up with more sometime later. Right now, I need to eat and rest. =)
