An exploration of the modern modeler’s Mecca, a fully-guided tour for 1/6 collectors in Hong Kong and Guangzhou, visiting both wholesalers and specialist retailers. Do not miss this opportunity to get an insider's view of the largest model manufacturing region in the world. This is a rare chance to visit the very hub of the one sixth modeling industry, in the company of a regular foreign buyer who speaks Chinese and who has been visiting the region for more than fifteen years.
Saturday April 4th – Arrive in Hong Kong including airport or sea port pick up, spend the afternoon in the specialist 1/6 collectors’ shops of Mongkok, including the world famous Richmond House as well as many others. Enjoy dinner and an evening meet up with local collectors.
Sunday April 5th – An easy Sunday morning followed by a guided visit to the collectors shops of Causeway Bay. In the evening, enjoy the freedom to explore and enjoy the vibrant night life of Hong Kong.
Monday April 6th – Hi-speed train to Guangzhou, followed by an afternoon visit to a 3D printer and evening meeting with local Chinese collectors.
Tuesday April 7th – A fully escorted tour of the 1/6 wholesalers concentrated around the rabbit warrens that are home to Guangzhou’s sprawling wholesale markets, popularly regarded as best place in China to find bargain priced and discontinued 1/6 collectibles, from a wide range of manufacturers.
Wednesday April 8th – A whistle-stop tour visiting a selection of the many wholesale districts that give Guangzhou its well deserved title of Workshop of the World. These will include the fake antiques market, the gems market and the Buddhist regalia market, along with any other markets that will appeal to kitbashers and diorama builders, such as the computers market and the electronic appliances surplus market. In the evening, I will be organizing a Bladerunner tour of China’s most Sci Fi city, showcasing a megalopolis that Syd Mead and Ridley Scott clearly anticipated more than three decades ago.
Thursday April 9th – Train back to Hong Kong, escorted to HK international Airport.
I, Chris Winnan, will be your guide on this exciting adventure and I am really looking forward to introducing you to the world of model manufacturing, utilizing my contacts and experience on the ground in China and Hong Kong. This is a chance to go behind Bamboo Curtain, for a rare insight into the city known as the Workshop of the World. This part of Asia is famous to one sixth collectors around the world as a Pandora’s box of exclusives, latest releases and bargain bins. Joins us in lifting the lid to reveal secrets only known to a few professional dealers.
I personally have been exporting one sixth collectibles for nearly five years now, with a number of eBay partners in Europe and the U.S. I can help organize international shipping, as well as specialized collectors’ cases and packaging. But this is also an excellent opportunity to meet other collectors and share your insights on this fascinating hobby. I will be bringing my own large box of trade items with me and I urge other attendees to bring plenty of items to swap and exchange. In addition, I will be organizing a number of cash prize buying competitions for the savviest purchases in areas such as weaponry, clothing and novelty items.
Why April? April is the temperate spring season when the climate is at its most comfortable. This avoids both the monsoon rain of May and June as well as the chaos of the world’s largest import export trade fair when all local prices triple for at least three weeks.
