Great Texas G.I. Joe Show VI is a Go!!!

Well, after hearing that Joelanta was taking over the month of March 2010 and GIJOECON taking over late April 2010 (in Providence, RI), we’ve decided to move The Great Texas G.I. Joe show to the summer – June 26th and 27th to be exact. The location is the same – the Arlington Convention Center – smack dab between Dallas and Ft. Worth, Texas. We’re working to lock in the hotel rate of $99 a night with the Sheraton, which is right across the parking lot.

With the International G.I. Joe Convention moving their show to late April, we feel collectors will be looking for a show to enjoy during the summertime and in an area within driving distance or for an affordable airfare. Well, you cannot get any better than June, and Arlington is the hotspot for summer family fun (The Original Six Flags Over Texas). Factor in The Great Texas G.I. Joe Con and you’re set for a fun-filled two day (or three day) weekend.

The showroom will be 6000 square feet in size with the capability to hold 28 booths. Notable dealers such as Cotswold Collectibles, True Scale Armor, Good Stuff to Go, and RS Custom Toys have already reserved booth space, and I have a gut feeling that the other slots will fill up fast.

Fantastic vendor list! I've been out of the 1/6 gig for well over a year now so this will be a great way to come back.

I am wondering if anyone has thought of setting up an area specifically so people can trade items? Or would that be considered a no-no?

Yeah, I don't think the dealers at the show would be too cool about that idea. However, we may (key word here) host a swap meet at the Sheraton Hotel that Saturday night. Still on the drawing board though...

Well maybe you guys can host one during the day sometime in the future. I'm not the type that sticks around all day when it comes to conventions. I like to get there early, spend all my money then leave. Will any interesting events be going on?

Still hammering out all the finer details. We did have to do away with the custom contest and workshop seminars due to lack of attendance/participation. However, we will have a 1:6 scale P38 Night Lightning on display.

BTW - Ricky Puckett, noted vintage G.I. Joe dealer, will be at the show. Just confirmed him for two booths...

Well, all the dealer table space is spoken for and I think we have just two dealer booths left (with a few dealers mulling over them). Just confirmed that Echo Base will be there with two booths worth of 1:6th greatness too!

If u collect 1/6, almost everything is there... Vintage Joe/New Joe... DML/SS/Did/etc boxed figs... custom 1/6 vehicles... loose parts... even pudd Joes... Have a look at the list of dealers coming... About the only show in the fly-over states and certainly the biggest... It's only called a GI Joe show 'cause most of the guys putting it on are long-time collectors... From the dark ages when there was no DML/SS/Did...

We now have a website set up for attendees to make their reservations with the Arlington Sheraton online. This will automatically give you the $99.00 rate. Click HERE for info. That's $60.00 bucks off the going price. In addition the Sheraton is literally about three hundred feet from the ACC where the show is being held and has free onsite parking for guests. Take it from me, the free parking and convenience of staying at the Sheraton and just walking across the parking lot to the show is well worth the few extra bucks.

Since the Sheraton Hotel is going to be our base camp for the show, we are going to be holding a swap meet in the lobby Saturday night! So all attendees are encouraged to bring their trade goods and be prepared to hug the rug. (sit onthe floor) The event will start around dark thirty Saturday night and go on until everyone collapses from trade fatigue.
