No you are not alone in wishing for one. The only one I know of is the Hong Kong Air crew suit, which is effectively the dry suit and would do the business, but it comes in one colour - bright orange. I played around with the idea of colouring one black but for some reason it wasnt possible (cannot remember specifically why). Anyway, suffice to say I want one anyway!
Glad i'm not alone! I'm trying to pluck up the courage to source some 'rubberised' material and play around with it. Who knows, if it works we may be on to something!
Anyone else got any thoughts on this? I've got the figures in my head, an SBS operator in all the correct kit, (which has been attempted but never completely accurately due to lack of available kit - No offence to the guys who've put something together in the past) and a Royal marine from the 'Fleet Protection Group', which would be relatively simple apart from this damned drysuit!!!
Has anyone tried this one before? What were the results? It would be veery interesting to hear!
Man I would love a dry suit diver. That was one of the reasons I purchased the UDT with special mask. But how cool would it be to have a diver with a hard hat rebreather.
I don't know about the RN, but the RAN wear bright orange dry suits when boarding fish poaching vessels in extreme sea conditions, ie, at the arse end of the world, the Antartic ocean.
In the RN we wear orange suits for survival in case of shipwreck, although this is changing! We call them once-only suits and they are of very thin material and don't really keep you warm for very long. (Better than being wet though).
The standard RN drysuits are for boating operations and are black except for the upper body and sleeves. (The collar and cuffs are black) The upper body section is bright yellow.
Divers wear all black drysuits, the design/model being dependent on their specialisation. The Fleet Protection Group (Royal Marines) sometimes wear a lightweight black drysuit fro non-diving work. i.e. Boarding operations etc. involving helicopter and fast boat insertion.
I've got some great photos which, if the suit was available would produce a really unusual kitbash.
