Well I finally did one! This was a bit rushed so I ad mor to it later.

Step 1: Grab a blade and cut off the top of your figs head following the hair line.

You will end up with this...

Now cut away all the moulded hair...

You should end up with this flesh coloured pro-tec. Don't worry about the rough surface...

Now CAREFULLY trim the edge of the head on an angle so it will form a depression when it is joined back to the head.

now do the same with the lower part....

Now it should look a bit like this..

Now grab some mink and some scissors and we shall begin!

Cut a strip of mink and attach it with super glue to the center of the head (mohawk style). Make sure that a small amount hangs over the front and back of the head, this will be folded under and glued in place.

Now cut some patches for the side and glue them in place. Again make sure to leave some haning over to fold inside.
Once that is done replace the top of the head onto your fig and check fit. Some trimming may be necessary.

Now get the "Queer Eye" boys over and make him look Fabulous!

Or you can just trim his hair a little and style it however you like.

I have opted for the wet, greasy, dirty and tired look.

DRAMA!

Did you just use regular hairspray or Gel to style his hair? And this gives me NOTHING but ideas... DAMN YOU!

Gung Ho... I'm pretty sure any fluffy rodent pelt should work fine . I use rabbit .

I'm terrified to hack the top of my figures heads off though.

I tried this technique and it worked well - had to use Plastic Welder to reattach the skulltop/hair back to the head sculpt...

go to fly fishing store. They sell furs of many differet kinds for make flies. So, you can check it out.

Hello,

For the pro-tec piece you could use doll hair from a craft store or artificial fur from a fabric shop. This can be attached using archery glue: NPV, HMG, Duco, Goat tuff and other brands that are used to glue the vanes, feathers, or nocks to the shaft. Of course you could use epoxy or even a hot melt glue but the archery glue can be applied in a thin bead and avoid the lumps that a glue gun causes and the hair clumping that epoxy glues tend to cause.

To attach the pro-tec piece back to the head, you can use a good epoxy-type cement or Goop.

Yeah, I'm encouraged to experiment with real hair projects now with this technique vs. rooting. I don't really like punching since I'm more of a slasher :chainsaw

This tutorial makes me want to try harder on the customs, and unfortuantely it raises the debate of real hair vs sculpted. Has anyone tried to actually make the hair rooted as opposed to using pelt, and how does that turn out in comparison?
