This from the Yahoo news page:

Time Magazine's cover for the Dec. 29- Jan. 5 issue shows three American military personnel representing the 'Anonymous American Soldier' chosen by Time to be the magazine's 2003 Person of the Year. The American soldier, who bears the duty of "living with and dying for a country's most fateful decisions,'' was named Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003 as Time's Person of the Year. The magazine's editors chose the nameless soldier to represent the 1.4 million men and women who make up the U.S. military, which led the invasion of Iraq nine months ago and scored big this month with the capture of deposed leader Saddam Hussein.

I think it is very fitting that the US military men and women have been given this recognition. Especially at this time of year with so many of them having to spend this holiday season away from the ones they love in hostile countries. We owe them all so very much.
