Re: Taowan Does Modern HummVee (full metal)
Unfortunately, most who have studied the images posted on the Chinese forum several days ago seem to agree -- it's undersized, and so are the tire profiles. Seems to suffer from previous 1/6 Hummers. Looking at the windshield it appears that the cab head room was stretched to accomodate 1/6 figures. It would appear that they took an existing 1/6 Hummer model and copied it exactly along with the off scale features. May be this manufacturer will react by making corrections just like Metalbox did with their Opel Blitz.
Best comp image I could find short of a real HUMVEE was Tamiya's 1/35 model which may not be 100% accurate in its own right, but it seems to reflect where it's off

Re: Taowan Does Modern HummVee (full metal)
Add the slope of the engine bonnet being too flat, bush guards too short, and unless that's an armored HUMVEE, the door windows too small.
BTW -- it weighs 20kg's (44 lbs).

The windshield reminds me of the 21C Humvees, it looks to tall. And the wheels look like jeep wheels instead of Hummvee wheels

Yeah the proportions are all wrong, it just jumped right out at me when I first looked at it. The details are really nice looking but the overall effect is not great.

Re: Taowan Does Modern HummVee (full metal)
Man, I'd kill to have an all metal hummer to work with. I should start saving my money now. Sucks that it has some technical flaws. How difficult you reckon it would be to customize it and make it a little more accurate?

Re: Taowan Does Modern HummVee (full metal)
You know .. I wouldn't even go there. I'd bitch aloud until the mfg. hears that feedback isn't all rosey, and make them re-tool and make the proportions right. These will run you close to a grand or three quarters by the time you get done with shipping in any event. So, no -- that's not even an option in my book. Re-tool TAOWAN .. METALBOX did so why don't you ..

Bleh, underscaled like 21c. It is not wide enough. I wish they would based their scale on hasbro one.

Scratch build....its the only way.
No matter what you buy, they'll always make compromises somewhere due to cost, manufacturing ( large runs ), and possibly even, simply not giving a damn!

Check back in this section sometime this weekend...I finished major-rod's Humvee and will post the pix. It will have every kit and add-on , the body was raised, and it'll be painted. (he's going to weather it).

My thoughts on 1:6 vehicles. Make it to scale or don't make it. I consider myself a modeller and collector of models, not a collector of expensive toys.

Ditto, Jay. Too bad they put so much time and effort to make such an off scale, expensive offering.

Re: Taowan Does Modern HummVee (full metal)
Aw maaan. I opened the thread with my hopes up... but my jaw didn't drop as I expected. Instead my heart sank a little. [sigh]
Seems they wasted a lot of time and money tooling to the wrong spec. You'd think they'd at least check the measurements against readily available diagrams of the 1:1 thing.
Looks like the slightly underscaled HMMWV that KayBee (Power Team?) toys was selling a while back. Little bit more proportioned than 21st Century, but still falls WAY short of Hasbro's version. DML set the bar in regards to prototype, and Hasbro set the bar in regards to an actual production piece. Anything else that follows will need to exceed that.
Not worth the investment for such an off-scale offering. Even the best weathering, accessories, and SF bashes can't hide those flaws.
[I'm more at the edge of my seat for Sawgunner's kit. Can't wait to see your latest work Butch! ]

Re: Taowan Does Modern HummVee (full metal)
I think I'll just stick with my $30 plastic Power Team Humvee. I'm with everyone else here who has commented on the size/proportion issue. If someone is going to ask several hundred dollars for an item like this, I at least want it to be accurate.

Re: Taowan Does Modern HummVee (full metal)
It is a crying shame. They went through so much trouble to make this metalized baby and then cut corners on the most glaring items that collectors have openly pointed out on previous offerings:
- The hinges on the doors are just plain wrong (might be more than willing to overlook this on a plastic, economically priced offering but not at this price tag)
- the undercarriage and wheels are way too low and small, respectively, making the whole vehicle look much smaller than it actually is (see jeep wheels comment above, too)
- the overall length of the vehicle looks a bit short; getting figures in and out of that cab with the doors/ hinges being what they are is going to be frustrating
- the gunner hatch on the top looks a bit tight (judging by the gap between the front of the hatch opening and the windshield)
This definitely needs some retooling for this price tag.

Re: Taowan Does Modern HummVee (full metal)
With access to all those tools why not make molds for a plastic kit? Regardless it'll be a tough sale unless they rethink the scale and design. Sadly it looks like it was designed to fit some wheels they already had from another kit.

Re: Taowan Does Modern HummVee (full metal)
*Sigh*. I echo Ronin, had high hopes and then my heart felt crushed. Underscaled, doesn't look right, and also....and my biggest groan.....why an SF HMMWUV? Why not a standard M1025/26 A2 from '03? Nothing that is full of gee wiz gear, just a standard vehicle that we could customized into whatever we want from Cav Scouts, to Infantry, to MP vehicles. Oh well back to the dreams.

Re: Taowan Does Modern HummVee (full metal)
Maybe someone should email the company and direct them to this thread. I'd save my money and pay for an accurate metal HMMWV. And you are all right. At this price point it should be as close to perfect as humanly possible.

From what I learn on the BBICN forum, Taowan is making changes based on the views expressed by the members of that forum.

Wait a sec... Why would that make me happy? Saving for this would surely drain my wallet. I need to destroy my credit card before it destroys me.
um... what is BBICN forum anyway?

Re: Taowan Does Modern HummVee (full metal)
If they do get the body and running the right scale, they would open themselves up to a wide array of additional vehicle configurations and accessories.
