REVIEW: Hot Toys MMS - Dark Knight: Harvey Dent/Two-Face

So you're a die-hard Dark Knight fan and can't get enough of Hot Toys' line of MMS 1:6 scale figures based on the award-winning blockbuster?

Well buckle up for a while ride when later this month (or later this spring!), DC Direct brings US fans the new Hot Toys MMS Harvey Dent/Two-Face figure.

Perfectly capturing the essence of the the film's "White Knight" as well as his twisted troubled soul post-trama, this 12-inch figure makes for an amazing addition to the previously released characters in the line.

PACKAGING:
Like previously released figures, the box includes an attractive slipcover which features attractive graphics. Unique to this figure, the slipcover is two-sided and features both the "Harvey Dent" as well as the "Two Face" packaging (above).

Under the slipcover, the box itself features the character's famous line from the film as well as an image of the character's favorite accessory: his coin (above).

Inside, the figure's packaged with the "Two Face" head attached to the body as well as the damaged coat. The "Harvey Dent" head as well as the accessories are packaged next to the figure while the non-damaged coat is on the gatefold (abiove).

Overall, the box securely holds the figure and accessories while presenting collectors who prefer the boxed look with two unique display options: the "white knight" Harvey Dent or Two-Face.

OUTFIT & SCULPTING:
The figure features a very nice suit which fits the figure fairly well. While the pant legs seem a little long, the overall look fits the character's film appearance nicely. The only major complain is the shoes, which are way too shiny and look fake. A nice pair of leather shoes would have been much better (especially at the price folks are paying for this one!).

The figure includes two different head sculpts as well as two different coats - one damaged (Two Face) and one undamaged (Harvey Dent). The Two-Face coat and headsculpt (above) define the character and perfectly capture the character's look from the film. Horribly disfigured by a gas fire, the burnt skin and flesh on the face, neck, and head show an amazing amount of detail while the burnt jacket likewise helps define the figure's character.

On the opposite side, the Harvey Dent head sculpt looks amazingly like actor Aaron Eckhart and those looking for an Aaron Eckhart head sculpt need look no further. The actor's visage is perfectly captured here and Hot Toys once again proves they can make some of the best mass-produced heads in the business.

Likewise, the undamaged jacket gives the character a civilized look that says "I'm all business." After all, this is one DA who's ready for action.

ARTICULATION:
Let's be honest, you're not going to be posting this figure in a ton of "action" poses. Harvey Dent is a DA and Two-face was always a thinker more than a fighter. That said, the figure still includes the regular Hot Toys 12-inch figure articulation, including neck, shoulders, elbows, ribs/chest, wrists, waist, hips, thighs, knees, calves, and ankles. Plenty of articulation to pose the figure seated, standing (with the included display base) or in those random "action" poses fans find it necessary to put him into...

ACCESSORIES:
As previously mentioned, Two-face was always more of a thinker versus a fighter and Harvey Dent, as a lawyer, didn't need any weapons, so only a revolver is included. However, the main accessory here is both a damaged and undamaged "coin" which the former hero used both in his previous crime-fighting life and as a criminal (above). Two interchangable hands are also included - one made to hold the pistol and one specifically made to hold the coin (above).

Likewise, a "I Believe in Harvey Dent" button is included (above) and makes for a cool display when used with the "Harvey Dent" head sculpt.

A display base with the Dark Knight logo and character's names on it is also included.

COST & OVERALL IMPRESSION:

At $150, this is one figure most casual Dark Knight fans will probably pass on. While it's beyond impressive in terms of sculpting and detail, the fact that the Joker is more of a visually impressive character and the fact the economy is forcing fans to choose which higher-costing figures to buy might mean Harvey Two-Face gets passed over...which is sad because he's truly an impressive piece.

That said, your basically buying an official Two-Face headsculpt and jacket as well as an Aaron Eckhart headsculpt on a basic 12-inch Hot Toys body and suit. There's not much here in terms of accessories (though those included are relevant).

Overall, considering the nature of this character and the fairly simple design, a lower cost would no doubt mean more sales, but - again - die-hard Dark Knight fans will pick this up wanting to complete their collection of Hot Toys MMS figures from the hit film. And, considering the film was really Harvey Dent's story...well...this figure should do well...

Great review. I ordered this figure and think that it is basic but I wanted to have the complete set. I really wish they would make a Scarecrow or Swat/ regular Commissioner Gordon, but I don't think they will.

Man, now I'm gonna have to buy one D:
And somehow I'd like to see a picture of him with the 2-face head but only wearing the white shirt.

Re: REVIEW: Hot Toys MMS - Dark Knight: Harvey Dent/Two-Face

I just got this figure yesterday and have to agree with everything that Corwinghorse said. It is an impressive figure in terms of the sculpts and the jackets. It is a little light on the accessories, but then again, Two-Face really didn't have much in the film either. It is a must buy if you are a huge fan of the film or character, but I can also see many people pass on this figure, particularly because of the cost.

Re: REVIEW: Hot Toys MMS - Dark Knight: Harvey Dent/Two-Face

You know, there is one more accessory I thought of that they could have included: a shot glass from the bar scene when he first went looking for the corrupt police who screwed him.

I know it's not much, but it would be pretty cool if you had a little 1:6 bar: Two-Face behind the bar with a shot glass in one hand and his revolver in the other.

Oh, and a few different Harvey Dent for District Attorney campaign posters would be really cool for display purposes, and would also have been cheap to include.

That's all I can really think of right now though, for any possible accessories that would fit him and would have been reasonable to include ... any other ideas?

Mine arrived a couple of days ago. I like it more than BR Joker. Two-Face lacks the cool accessories of Joker, but makes it up in appearance. It is such a great display piece.

Thanks for the nice review, got this myself coz HT captures the stunning face of Harvey( Aaron Eckhart ). Agrees with all your comments and you'd certainly describes it in great details. The only thing I love to address with this figure was the skin texture HT applies with the HS. Believes it is some what different with their other release though. IMO.

Re: REVIEW: Hot Toys MMS - Dark Knight: Harvey Dent/Two-Face

did u know that HT make a mistake about the Quality control...

if u are not lucky... u get the eye liner .. which is bold and like using a pencil to draw the line...

it makes him looks like a bi$%...

Great review! As much as I loved the movie, I'm passing on this line mainly because it doesn't fit into my collection.

Re: REVIEW: Hot Toys MMS - Dark Knight: Harvey Dent/Two-Face

Thanks for the review.
I was very tempted to buy this figure only because of the sculpt and the quality of the dress, but now, thanks to your work I will not.

The sculpt is excellent, but thepainitng is inferior to the official pictures that circulated that showed the hand painted sample.

The dress quality is outrageously different. In your photos it is evident that the mass produced figure's dress is much lower in quality.

It seems that the magic has disappeared. It reminds me the photos of the Mac Farlane figures of some years ago. The catalogue photos were amazing, but once you saw the figure on the peg you were abruptly tranported in the real world.

Thanks again

Re: REVIEW: Hot Toys MMS - Dark Knight: Harvey Dent/Two-Face

Remember photos sometimes alter the figure's actual appearance in terms of lighting and focus. So what you see here might not be a true representation of the actual figure. Still, I applaud Mr Crowinghorse for a nice review of Two Face.
