first up, kaiyodo's & buildup's kits!
first kit is the comic version armour distributed some time in the early 90's (around 1991). rare item.
includes a c96 pistol that goes into the wrist shield, alternative right hand and mg34.
ive added a pic from the comic for reference
this kit is very nicely detailed, and the finnished model can stand just fine on a shelf.
between this kit, the medicom comic figure, and the takara figures, this one is the most accurate to the comic design, due to takara redesigning theirs and medicom not including parts of the armour for the upper arms.
these seldom appear on ebay, but expect to pay about 100-150 dollars.

next is the buildup and kaiyodo kits of the stray dog movie armour.
these are the only kits to come with both a removable helmet and mask, and features inui's face underneath. comes with mg 42
this kit is notable as it seems that it is kaiyodo's original sculpt, but buildup (the company that produced the actual movie armour props) released (obviously under license) there own branded version, the difference between the two being that kaiyodos old release is white vinyl while buildups kit is black vinyl. obviously packaging differs too. Buildup's is also fairly hard to find, more so than most other kits, but its not too much of a problem as low quality recasts of this kit show up all the time. the kaiyodo kit is however extremely hard to find, i have seen only one one boxed example (which i now have) and it is hard to find any information on it, likely due to low production and the fact it is fairly old and long long sold out.
the kits are nicely detailed, and when built is partially aticulated in the arms and neck. the mg42 is metal, whilst the rest is soft vinyl. the head on this model is the tiniest bit undersized, though it isnt noticable until you stand it next to more modern figures such as the dml panzer cop.
i have never seen either the kaiyodo version on ebay, but i would expect it to reach a fairly high price. the buildup version was listed once on ebay, but due to high buy-it-now price it didnt sell and was removed (didnt help that there economic difficulties at the time) so the going price price in the western markets isnt clear as it wasnt sold and the seller didnt reduce the price to sell it. when new info on price comes up i will update
due simply to the rarity boxed, i say the kaiyodo version is worth whatever you are willing to pay, and in my opinion 150-200 dollars would be reasonable, and up to 150 for the buildup kit is fair also, but as always, try to get the best deal if you do decide to get either, and bear in mind the rarity before deciding to build these kits.

next is the kaiyodo jin roh kit. limited to only 500. very rare
includes alternative right and left hands and mg42 rifle
when built, the shoulders and head are partially articulated. the holstered mauser c96 is not removable, and the mg42 is made from vinyl with metal parts.
this kit seldom shows up on ebay, and usually fetches over 100 dollars.

now on to medicom. the first three medicom figures used the armour from the kaiyodo/buildup kits, with takara combat joe base bodies.
the first two below, are very rare items.
the stray dog movie version is grey in colour, and has limited articulation. it is the only medicom figure to come with removable helmet and mask (thanks to the original kit design). it also includes an mg42, and a spring that goes from the mask to the backpack as a breathing tube.
the comic version armour is actually incomplete. it does not include the upper arm protectors and tubes that the kaiyodo kit on which it is based does include. it does have a removable helmet (that is loosly stuck on), an mg34 rifle, and a c96 pistol that can be put into the wrist shield. the backpack does not clip on, so it is up to the owner to find a way to attatch it. the included bullet belt must also be trimmed and painted, as do the eye lenses.
the armour (as on all the medicom kerberos figures) is not designed to be removable.
these figures show up occasionally on ebay for about 150-250 dollars usually. because of the lack of articulation etc i recommend only paying up to 100 dollars though

next up is the popular jin roh figure from medicom distributed in 1999/2000, this figure makes great use of the kaiyodo armour parts sculpted by takuma katsuo.
the figure has limited articulation, one gun holding hand, two clenched fists, an mg42, and interchangable heads. the kazuki fuze head is the only newly sculpted piece (the only 1990's medicom kerberos figure to actually include something not already sculpted) and does indeed look like the character from the anime. the figure also doesn't suffer from the shortness many other medicom figures demonstrate
there is also a screenshot from the movie for reference.
this figure is usually listed on sites such as ebay for about 200 dollars.

all the first three medicom figures re-use existing parts (armour/weapons/heads/helmets/hands: kaiyodo/buildup, bodies: takara combat joes) but only this figure features new tooling: kazuki fuse's head. the cloth clothing is the only cosistant new item on the figures.

next is the medicom red spectacles figure from 2007. Unlike the other kerberos from the past few years this figures helmet and mask are not removable. the chest device is indeed a calculator, a result of low budget sci fi movie production.
this figure comes with 5 interchangable hands, an mg34 rifle with only one moving part (the ammo feed part) a c96 pistol, long and short bullet belts, removable backpack and figure stand. the short bullet belt attatches the chest and the backpack while the long bullet belt fits into the mg34 rifle. the c96 slips into the wrist shield. it is actually very accurate to the movie, down to the chest display with koichi's name. this is medicoms only figure to feature newly sculpted armour and parts, and actually looks very good.
something to watch out for: the hips tend to be loose so the figure will fall over without the support of the stand, while the ankle attatchments for the feet dont hold very securely.
i have included a screenshot of the armour in the movie itself for comparrisson.
this is still widely available on internet for between 100-160 dollars average. i don't recommend paying more than 170 dollars. i have seen this listed for as much as 300 dollars, which is far mor than it is worth.

now for dragon models ltd.
they released three versions of the stray dog movie armor in 2002 in conjunction with yamato. normal (international), light up eyes (japan) and battle damaged (toys r us exclusive) i believe the toys'r'us version was exclusive to hong kong but don't quote me on that.
these figures have soft plastic/ vinyl armour but metal helmets and bullet belts. these were the best value kerberos figures with the normal version selling for about 60 dollars in 2002, though you will be lucky to get one for under 150 dollars today.
the armour is completely removable, has a detailed mg42+bullets, small walther pistol+removable clip, and mauser c96 pistol+clip & toploading bullet clip.
be careful standing the figure up as it has loose hips and is a top heavy figure due to the metal helmet.
all in all though, the dtailing and sculpting is great, with the battle damage figure standing out as especially nice with dust and bullet damage.
price wise, on ebay, the international version usually goes for about 100-150 dollars, while both the damage and light up versions go for between 150-200 dollars each.
ive added reference pics from the movie itself and of one of the screen used props.

now onto takara tomy.
first up, the three versions of midori washio.
between 2006-2007 takara released three colors of midori: gloss black, then german grey, then finally matte black.
im not sure on production numbers (i'll have to research this) but all the takara jin roh figures are produced in limited numbers, apparently only 1,000 of the grey version were made.
possibly due to license restrictions, all takara protect gear figures are redesigns (not exact replicas of the comic armours) this armour no exception. It is a redesign of the comic armour, borrowing elements from all the movie and comic armours (e.g. the knee armour is a mix of both the jin roh knee pads and the stray dog armour knee pads)
this figure includes 3 left hands. 2 right hands, a spare hip plate, a c96 with stock/holster and clip, an mp40 rifle with clip and a cool girl stand
the joints are tight, and the figure poses well. price ranges between 100-180 dollars depending on the version.
heres the pics

from 2007-2008 takara released the ever popular male armour in three different flavors (same body, armour, weapons and masks, but different headsculpts).
the armour is a redesign of the jin roh armour, and it again borrows elements from all the movie and comic armours.
as with all takara kerberos figures, the gear is completely removable and many parts are interchangable with other takara figures (e.g. you can attatch the jet pack from the new cy cool girl cg13 "rocket girl" to this figures back plate and vice versa.
the three versions are as follows:
1st, koshimaru chuichi head
2nd koichi todome head
3rd soichiro toribe head
the rifle that comes with the figures is the mg34, and the pistol is a c96 with stock/holster. bullet belt can be attatched to the rifle and ammo barrel. the barrel can attatch to the backpack, or can be attatched without the backpack. there is a spare hip plate, and plenty of spare hands.
the price ranges from 130-250 dollars depending on the version. anything less than 120 dollars is a good buy because you get what you pay for. this figure is easily the best kerberos panzer cop available

takaras next entry is the upcoming tetsorou kai. this figure is again a redesign of an armour from the comic books, but borrows from other armours designs.
this character is a millitary officer from the japan ground self defense force (JGSDF) as opposed to police.
figure includes stick grenades, luger pistol and pzb 39 anti tank rifle.
this figure is due to be released march 26th 2009.
the first release is the green figure, with possibly two more following with alternative weapon/ armour / colour configurations (the next release is planned to be an ammo carrier with small sidearm)
expect all the armour and kit to be fully removable and interchangable.
ive added comparrisson pics of kai from the comic for comparrison just to show how much the design was altered for the figure. interestingly, the comic designed armour and mask are to be the basis for the stray dog movie armour, possibly part of the reason they redesigned kai, to differentiate him.
there is also an image of takaras early concept design for kai, with shields on both arms.
the basic release price for this figure is 20,790 yen, though it is on preorder for about 15,000 yen on many sites. expect it to go for between 150-220 dollars on ebay.

finally (for now) is the panzer jager aka hound of steel. no word on who will produce this armour, but it is planned for possible release late 2009-early 2010, though this is likely to change.
the first images of the prototype (worked on by the customiser Kaz) shown at toy shows are of the armour in metalic bronze, though most recently it was changed to glossy metalic black. it not known whether there will be two versions or just the one.

before the figure was shown, a 1/6 statue was displayed at multiple toy shows. no word on whether this statue will be released. another item shown at many toy shows was a 1/6 bust with chest, shoulder, face and head armour. again, no word on release.
this armour design is from the planned upcoming movie kerberos panzer blitzkrieg a.k.a kerberos panzer jager a.k.a hounds of steel.
if the figure sees release, expect it to come with mg34 and/or stg44.
the prototype figure includes fully removable mask and helmet, and very likely removable armour.
ive also added pictures of the comic version panzer jager armour and the panzer jager armour concept that the figure is based on.
as far as price goes, the figure will likely cost just as much as the recent takara figures (150-200 dollars), ditto the stature if it ever sees release. the bust may be somewhat cheaper.

one last post for now. the unmade concepts for takara panzer cop figures.
this poster features 5 takara designed kerberos, but only 1 (koshimaru chuichi) was made. the rest may be scrapped, or they may show up later. who knows.

Good job sir. The takara panzer cops pretty much introduced me to 1/6 stuff and I'll keep looking into their jin roh repertory in the future. And have two questions:

Why did they packed the 2007-2008 release with MG34s instead of MG42s? I dont recall the characters using MG34s.

Is there somewhere in the web where I might download jin roh comics?

Why did they packed the 2007-2008 release with MG34s instead of MG42s? I dont recall the characters using MG34s.

Is there somewhere in the web where I might download jin roh comics?
first off: in the red spectacles and comics they used mg34's not mg42's, and since these figures are based on these characters it makes sense to include them. check the reference pictures of the red spectacles and comic version figures (both of which are based on the koichi todome character)
the only time the panzer cops used mg42 rifles was in jin roh and stray dog: kerberos panzer cops, but the armour and weapon in stray dog were based on the ground self defense force troopers in the comics. mg42's are actually the inconsitency. the general rule in the kerberos world is mg34's and lack protect gears for anti terrorist police, mg42's and green/grey protect gears for gsdf.

the comics cant be downloaded as far as i know, but heres a page where you can read volume 1 & 2 of the comics in chinese simplified.
vol 1 http://comic.g365.net/comic/3075/1158/
vol 2 http://comic.g365.net/comic/3075/1159/
alternative vol 1 http://www.tuku.cc/comic/2077/1/
i'll add more links as i find them.
i'll also let you know if i find the japanese and english versions if i find them
my girlfriend reads and translates them for me (if you have some chinese friends they can do the same)
the manga was released in english by dark horse comics in a 6 issue set called hellhounds: panzer cops.
i have not yet tracked them down.
in total, there are roughly 4 japanese kerberos saga mangas
kerberos panzer cops vol 1&2
kerberos saga rainy dogs
kerberos and tachiguishi
heres the cover pictures:

two live action movies. red spectacles 1987 (akai megane) which is a bizzare mind f*** and a comedy (well its funny for japanese people)
and stray dog kerberos panzer cops 1991 (jigoku no banken: keruberosu) very drawn out drama/ japanese humor. watch the opening then skip to the end!
jin roh is still the best movie of the lot though.

yes. but it has the best story and is quite serious, not comic like the live action movies.

I have most of those but some are in storage. thanks for bringing them out and the review for each. I can remember when I got my first DML one and how cool I thought it was till some of the later versions from Takara and Medicom showed up. That Medicom one took me a while to like but it kinda grew on me. I still like Takara, expensive as they might be, best though.

All we need now is something from Hot Toys.

yeah, ive saved pretty much every image of kerberos figures to be found on the net. yours were among the most clear and detailed of the lot!
i will probably replace the pics with my own as soon as i get a better camera. but for now, the images already posted serve their purpose of showing people what the figs look like. glad you took them in the first place!!
feel free to post more pics, this is a reference thread after all. j
