Lightbulb Show coverage: Wonder Festival Aug 2008 (Figure Exhibition)

Wonder Festival - one of the biggest figure hobby exhibitions held twice a year at the Tokyo Big Sight. This is the 2nd time I went. Last year I waited 1hr to get in. So this year I went to the site early hoping I don't need to wait that long. But to my surprise this year there are even more people and I ended up waited 1.5hrs, under the sun light at temperature 32C (89F). But it worths all the hard work. The exhibition this year is huge (there are 7 halls). It really took 4~5 hrs to finish a "quick" browse of everything. A lot of interesting stuff to see.

You can visit my website to see the whole 240+ photos (WARNING: Adult Content):
http://web.mac.com/leungr

Last year I covered some cute military figures (Off Limit Design). I saw them again this year but they were, again, sold out. I spoke with the designer to know these figures are only sold at event like this and won't be available anywhere. It looks like I need to wait for the WF next year and I need to make sure I enter the exhibition early.

Ghost In The Shell is always my fav. Motoko and her team can always be seen in any figure exhibition. WF is no exception:

Japanese figure sculptors are amazing with their work. Here are just a few I like a lot:

And some movie/game characters:

Talking about 1/6 action figures, a few makers are showcasing their latest release plans. The panzer cops booth is displaying Kaz's custom figures. And there I found a special version.

Hope you enjoy!

Wow, some absolutely amazing stuff there! I found myself going "I want that, and that, and that...." That Azone booth alone could've broke the bank for me.

Thank you Ray for taking the time to photograph and post all of this.

Thank you so much AGAIN for these awesome pictures MGBB. You're basically our lifeline to awesome shows like these.
I really like seeing the masterfully sculpted works of the otaku figures and the wicked cool stuff that are unveiled there as well.
Thanks so much for taking uploading and sharing it with us!

Edit, after looking through all three pages:

How cool! Range Murata figurines, and Karas!! Hehe and the retro styled WW2 walker tanks are cool too, as well as the robo factory playset. and omg those half mecha half girl luftwaffegirl companions I wonder how the articulation was on those girl dolls in the black dresses with mini-thems. The joints looked nice for aesthetics and the hs and hands were nicely sculpted. AHH and more tachikomas is always a plus!

Wahhh I envy you!

Thanks everyone! I'm glad you guys like the pics. It was indeed an amazing show. I gotta go next time.

Talon65, evilalive, sorry I didn't note down more info. It was quite a rush. But I'm happy to see new outfit and HS from Takara.
dandid, yes, that Jolie is 1:1.
rogerbee, Sinergy, yes, I agree. That figure is also my fav of the day. Too bad that I didn't capture the label.
playa_freak, all the exhibitors are listed in the book sold at the entrance. It is like a phone directory I'm not kidding. But I don't know if there is a list online. Checked official website but can't see: http://www.kaiyodo.co.jp/wf/index.html
