Degraded HT muscular body SDU
Hey guys, just want to show u something.
Bought this figure for 95 USD when it is 1st released in 2003. This figure is the 1st edition of Hottoys muscular body.
The body rubber at 1st have small crack after the 1st year. Still i put it on display on good condition environment. Now, after more than 3 years. This figure is wreck now.
The arm part is now hard and upon touched, there is chemical substance on the rubber itself . I torn out some pieces from the affected arm.
I used a camera phone and snapped some photo. The photos shown is quite blur.
1st pic - left arm
2nd pic - torn out pieces
3rd pic - right arm
4th pic - armpit joint
5th pic - neck
6th pic - original pic from retailers
Does this happen to the newer generation of muscular body like HT Rambo?

Yep, this is a common problem with the first run of Hot Toys muscular bodies. I have/had around 5 of the new ones, and I've never had an issue with them. Well at least with cracks like that. One had a broken arm, and then another arrived with a broken leg. One I was able to salvage...

That's the main issue with the 1st run of HT's muscular bodies. Even VH's version which looks exactly the same are far better in quality. I've had mine for about 2 years and it's still in pristine condition.

That is some horrible sight! I do have a couple HT muscular bodies. But they are not the 1st gen ones. My earliest is the Rambo II and its still in excellent condition with no cracks or aging. Still nice and squishy.

Oof,
That's a mess! I'm glad I don't have any, I'd be positively psychopathic if I'd spent that much money only to have that happen. Ouch!

Same thing happened to mine, it's the 1/6 flesh eating bug.

Saw that coming 1/6 of a mile away
I knew rubber wouldn't stand the test of time. Surprisingly, later versions have seemed to hold up so far, but it hasn't even been 5 years on most figures. I'm waiting for the rubber on my HT RoboCop to peal away. I will be surprised if rubber included figures last thirty years like the figures I grew up with have. Unfortunately I will be 60+ when I find out for sure, unless of course they don't last that long, in which case, I told you so. Let's all meet up right here in 30 years and talk about it.

I also bought one of the Hot Toys SDU figures back in 2003 when they came out. After seeing reports of them falling apart, I started to worry about it, but so far mine has held up. I have read speculation that they could be affected by the climate you live in.

What VH set came with a muscle body?
My HT Green Beret is tearing behind the bicep, and that's with him not having been moved or posed in 2 years.

I also had similar problems with my DEVGRU v1.0 body. I got it off ebay and thought maybe the previous owner had tried to clean it with some chemicals or something, but found out thats just how they were. I do have the Rambo body which has held up, but I agree with SilentSurfer - it remains to be seen 5 years from now. Aside from that, I tend to stay away from the muscle bodies because of the limited articulation. For some bashes though, you can't beat the realism factor that they bring.

Oh yeah, sorry . I think the body they're talking about is the SDU knock-off sold at store-rooms.com:

I haven't checked my DEVGRU V2 figure lately, looks like it's time for a check-up. I know of special additives and rubber protecting agents used for things like car parts and aircraft parts, but I am not sure how this would affect the body of these figures. They may work to keep them soft, but I would be worried about discolouring the figure and/or the gear.
That HT DEVGRU figure was my first HT, and I thaught the body would be more flexible than it was. This is one more reason this figure is a bit of a disappointment. At least the gear is great.

Vaseline is bad for most rubber, so I wouldn't recommend it.

I agree with my fellow Canuck ( CDN_Rhino )..Vaseline is terrible for the HT muscular bodies because they are petroleum based.Armourall is also uses petroleum in it's product. so stay away from them as well for these particular figures I have used my wife's natural/aloe ( or whatever that stuff is...but it is petroleum free ) lotion and I have been very lucky so far with my HT SDU team...however, I do keep them out of natural sunlight or any light as a matter of fact. They are just cool and cozy in my basement.
