Custom Mignola Inspired Baltimore

Hey folks...

Been working on this for a couple of weeks... kitbashed from a few figures.... custom resculpted head... and leg.

Ok... story...

About a month ago, an illustrated novel from Mike Mignola, creator of Hellboy came out... called Baltimore... or the Steadfast Tin Soldier and the Vampire

I loved this book, and the character of Lord Baltimore so much... was so captivated by the depths of what drove him... that I needed him staring at me at all times. There were only two drawings done of him, the above one for the cover, and this one from the interior...

...and a bunch of text descriptions... so I had some liberties. It was all based in post WWI europe... so I grabbed a couple of "Bayonettes and Barbed Wire" Sideshow figures... and bought a couple of items from WarToys.... but the first step was to carve the leg. I made it from wood, with a hinged knee joint. I postulated that he'd craft a foot on the end, and would want it to look "finished" so I carved it as though it was a "boot" on the leg...

Then I got the word from Mr. Mignola himself that it ended in a peg... but I left the boot top... just to add weight and an interesting shape... and there you go!!!

Hope you like!!! Go read the book, it's fabulous!!!
cheers,
-r!

That is one great interpretation using just the story and two pics I'll have to check out the book as I'm a Mike M fan myself.

wow.... man... I never expected this kind of response!!!

Thank you everyone!!!

For the parts callout...

Hands and shirt are from Eddie Rickenbacher. Some of the belts and gear were from the German Infantry Lieutenant, from the Sideshow Bayonettes and Barbed Wire series. From that series, the Australian Light Horseman gave me the pants and right boot... obviously only needed one... and some gear as well... and some gear from the French Foreign Legionnaire. I also bought pieces from WarToys.com, such as the saber, the two Russian handguns, and the all important coat, which I modded with some extra buttons and darkened with paint soaking.

The head was a dragon head, but I don't remember where it came from. I shaved down the hair, and re-sculpted the stubble with bondo... and re-painted the head... glueing it onto the Sideshow body. I liked the slightly smaller head on the slightly larger body... nice "superhero" proportions!

Everything ended up with a hit of paint... and I still want to re-do the harpoon thing. This one is from the Vlad the Imapaler figure... but I don't like it much... looks like a pike... and I want to match that wacky Mignola harpoon!

One more thing... I sent pics to Mr. Mignola... who is a friend, and he loved it! And I quote...

"That's really great. And great photos.
The last one especially (waist up) is what he's supposed to look like.
Mike M"

I guess that's it!! I'm thrilled that it's been so well received!!! Thank you all for all the attention!

Maybe I'll shoot some more pics with bright light to show off all the parts!
cheers,
-r!

If I may be so bold. The harpoon could easily be a Roman Legionaire's javelin. Maybe you could pick up an Ignite one or a custom somewhere. Otherwise a piece of stiff wire, a piece of aluminum, solder and a dowel and you are good to go.
