Russian Naval Infantry

Here is my most recent Russian. I tried to represent a Marine of the Russian Naval Infantry like the images pasted. This has to be one of my favorite figures I have now. Thanks to Andrew (SantoPapa) whom tarded me this suit about a year or so ago. I could not find a way to use this great piece of custom work until now. I made the insignia on the hot toys' beret which turned out better than I could have hoped. Please comments and pointers always welcomed.

The belt's buckle and insignia on the beret is wrong.
It's a little things but they are very important

This is awesome Carlos! I've been waiting for some of your work. The HS is perfect for this bash, and you did an excellent job with the cockade on the beret. Is the belt from the WWII Soviet Naval infantry figure (can't remember who made it)?

Terrific job on the KLMK suit, and I see that I am not the only one who thought that diver head was a natural for an application like this.

The insignia on the beret is not wrong. The insignia is for an officer and if you look closer at some of the others in the pictures you will see that insignia. Also the belt is fine as it varies. Sometimes a little more knowledge is very important before you say something is wrong.

Great job keep up the awesome work.

Re: Russian Naval Infantry

I meant wrong proportions- cockade is too big. It's not 1/6 scale.

Both looks like from USSR period. I think that figure could be easily renamed as USSR Naval Infantry during Afghan war?

Re: Russian Naval Infantry

Good stuff Carlos! I almost thought Wes shipped you a "sneak-peak" of his next project! I love the head sculpt, and the beret flash is great (even if a tad over scale). It's funny you used that Hot Toys chest rig. I am WIP in turning one of those into the Afghan era version with leather tab and metal post closures, padded shoulder straps, and flare pockets. This figure looks mean, and ready for action. Where did you source the gloves?

Re: Russian Naval Infantry

Great looking figure Carlos. That head is perfect for a Naval Infantry bash. Considering the retro look we sometimes see currently sported by Russian Naval Infantry troops your figure could be historical or contemporary. As far as the insignia is concerned I think it looks great. Good modern Russian beret cockades and pins are something we could really use. There really aren't many choices outside of making our own or modifying what little useable insignia is out there.

@Otto.Skorzeny I've read that the Naval Infantry weren't used in the Soviet Afghan conflict. All the research I've done has turned up some conflicting results but the general concensus seems to be that the Naval Infantry didn't play any significant role. You are in Russia so any insight from you on that subject would be appreciated.

Great bash Carlos! I've been waiting for this to come up. I concur with everybody about the hs, it just adds to the b@dass-ness of the figure!

You're 100% correct. Naval Infantry is a part of Navy, and Afghanistan
doesn't have any sea So officially Naval Infantry never took part in that war. But many officers and soldiers from Naval Infantry were sent to Afghanistan as members of other troops, like VDV or artillery. They didn't wear their native uniform, but almost all of 'em kept their tel'nyashka and some of 'em wore their berets during combats. I didn't see any original photos proving that, all info from members of russian military forums who took part in Afghan war.

PS Just like SS Pea Dot jump smock. It did exist, but there is no single photo with any SS Fallschirmjager worn it...

Alex, thank you. It was difficult to find a good source for the insignia and this is what I was able to produce. I think I will remake it or maybe you make some for us, please.....

Thanks Wes! Yup this head with the factory camo really looks great as Russian. I keep thinking maybe getting one more. The belt is from a Dragon WW2 Naval Infantry figure I can't remember which figure, I got it from Echo Base.

Thanks! Andrew(santopapa) did a great job on the suit without it I couldn't have made this figure.

I was thinking the same thing of maybe a the title should have been cold war era Naval Infantry.

Thanks Matt! The beret insignia is a three piece item back, middle and star. Maybe if I remove the back piece and paint the edge gold of the middle piece it might make it look different. I found some anchors that I am hoping will also work for the next Naval Infantry beret, I'll keep you guys posted. I can't wait to see what you are cooking up!! The gloves are from the Very Hot Swat sets.

Andrew without this great suit you made this figure would not have been possible.
