A disappointment
Receive the Soldier Story Neptune the other day and I must say Hot Toys has their bodies beat! Was pretty disappointed with the accessories as well. :-(

Re: A disappointment
Really? Must be my old Hot Toys British Lieutenant body (I don't have any newer HT body), cause SS bodies are by far my favourite right now. What didn't you like about the accessories?

Re: A disappointment
I agree with Oppl -- Soldier Story are my favourite male bodies out there right now.

Re: A disappointment
Consensus around here is that the SS Neptune figure is top notch, but everyone has their opinion. As for the HT bodies vs. SS, the SS bodies are my favorite as well.

Re: A disappointment
SS are my favorite. HT seems to fragile. I don't like that. But thats your opinion and we respect that.

Re: A disappointment
Lately I find that SS' body are very good in doing various military positions.. The only disappointment with SS is you can't switch heads with other brands (unless with a little mod)

Re: A disappointment
My disappointed with SS in general is their cutting/fitting. Their clothes are getting too big for their bodies, unlike how HT and even TTL which have tighten up bit so the clothes appear to fit properly.
I have to pad out or swap bodies for most SS figures since their Multicam TFC line.
Their bodies have gotten better due to mature production techniques. Last pet peeve is their head sculpts only fit their own neck ball joints!!! Pain in the rear trying to swap bodies and keep the stock head at the same time.

Re: A disappointment
Old SS releases are notorious for over-sized BDUs (especially the pants). I think they're made for 1/5 scale or steroid-fed nudes. The worst offender I think is the TF FCS figure, the pants are ridiculously large, the guy looks like he's wearing Hammer's parachute pants (sold mine for a very cheap price). They've fixed that problem now and even though the Neptune guy still comes with a wee bit over sized pants, I think it's intentional to accommodate action poses.
SS plastic parts are awesome (body, weapons etc) while the gears are somewhat inconsistent, but they're overall very good so I'm not sure why you're disappointed at all.

Re: A disappointment
I dont care for it much because it has "clip" on muscular legs, and doesnt seem to pose as well as the HT bodies. The velcro on the accessories dont hold very well and the uniform is way too big. Think they could have done a much better job! IMO.....maybe Im just getting old and cranky :-)

Re: A disappointment
I would rather have over-sized than under-sized. Over-sized you can deal with, and most guys wear their uniform over-sized. Look at photos of the 1:1. You don't see big gaps between their legs like a super model, or the knee-pads wrapping around little sticks. To me that look is what makes 1/6 seem completely unauthentic.
I've found the best thing to do is place the thigh additions on, so that the little grove fits right over the knee connection. In other words, twist them so the fat part is on the inside, not outside. Then take a piece of blue tape and wrap it around the whole thigh. That holds it in place. Putting it on the inner thigh makes it look more normal. If you put it on the outside, it makes them look like a kangaroo. Then take some of that self stick weather seal foam, and put a little strip on the upper/inner thighs for about 3/4" inch, and another little piece on the crotch. That prevents there being that goofy doll gap between their legs.
What would fix all this, are bodies that aren't made to look anorexic.

The HT bodies have clip on muscles too and I think the uni is perfect but I will admit the velcro on SS figs is hit or miss sometimes you just get bad ones.

Re: A disappointment
Surprisingly, I am in agreement with rocky; I really don't like the kit that came with the figure. I didn't actually get the full set, just some assorted parts from Monkey Depot, but I see where he's coming from. The velcro is pretty shotty, and I am think that Toys City currently has the best when it comes to Crye Precision gen 2 uniforms. On the contrary, I still love their bodies.

Re: A disappointment
I don't think the micro Velcro works well from any company. It is the result of getting a more accurate scale and look and sacrificing functionality. I remember when regular pile Velcro was standard on action figures and functionally it worked great. It looked like crap once we saw the lower profile stuff, but it worked. So you have to choose functionality or detail.

Re: A disappointment
Well thanks for the comments guys! I appreciate everyones opinion. Some guys like blondes some guys like brunettes. Oh well. So I know what my first trade figure will be. Didn't even put all of his accessories on him.
