Best Female Figure For Stop Motion Animation Project
Hey,
I know there are a couple of members here who make stop motion shorts w/their
collection of figure. I am looking for the best female action figure that would be best for the rigors of a stop motion animation project, I am working on. Any help would be great and thanks in advance.

Re: Best Female Figure For Stop Motion Animation Project
I can tell you from my experience the joints on the TTL female body would probaby be too loose, they don't hold a pose well. The joints on the Otaku (triad toys) bodies are very stiff, almost to the point you could break them!
You need to find the happy medium I guess

Re: Best Female Figure For Stop Motion Animation Project
I would suggest the Triad Alpha without hesitation. I think the latest batch of base bodies from TTL or ZC are OK, but they can occasionally suffer from loose joints or inability to hold a pose in unusual clothing. The latest batch of Alphas are extremely well made, very flexible, and have good stiff joints that will hold a pose without a problem. The wrists and ankles are still a little bit wonky (the wrists look great at the cost of some flexibility, and the feet can still pop off a bit too easily), but the Alpha is compatible with other companies' wrist pegs and bootfeet, so you can swap those out easily.
The one catch with the Alphas (other than the knees which I still don't like much) is that non-Triad headsculpts might need some modding to fit. I happen to like Triad's latest batch of standalone headsculpts, but if you don't then you might have some time with Dremels and Xacto knives in your future. It can be done for sure (check out Codename Silent G's awesome mods to put HT heads on Alpha bodies), but you'll need to do some work to get there.
The only other base body I'd say is suitable for stop-motion work would be the Takara Cool Girl 2.0 or 3.0 body, but you're facing an eBay hunt for one while the Triad Alphas are available from lots of different vendors. The HT bodies are very well sculpted, but it seems that every one of them has one or another deficiency in articulation. They're wonderfully sculpted but I still don't like 'em much.

Re: Best Female Figure For Stop Motion Animation Project
Triad Alphas. We used them for stop motion and found they were the best for what we were doing. I want to add that when we use a figure for stop motion sometimes we cut the figure up depending what we are doing with it, sometimes we even rebuild the joints loosen and stiffen them to get the figure to do what we want it to do.
As far as basic stuff and posing out of the box??? I would go with the Alpha. I like the new heads also!

Re: Best Female Figure For Stop Motion Animation Project
I use a variety of figures. My rule of thumb is the figure must hold a pose, Duh, huh? But any figure will fit that demand. If you want to use a TTL, stiffen up the joints first with a little super glue. Just a drop or two, then keep moving the joint and it will stiffen up nicely and is ready for stop-motion.
When I did my project "The Date" I used a bbi perfect body 1.5. The joints were already tight and she / Shi worked out fine.
I hope that helps

Re: Best Female Figure For Stop Motion Animation Project
Gariel,
I think he was asking more about which figure would be best to use as far as best to work with for doing stop motion movements, holding a pose, and so on. Hot toys female figures look great but not the best for stop motion filming. Patrick can make a stop motion film with a brick, he is a stop motion genius!
