Ar piston driven pistol sytem (new mod)
OK, so I buy and look through too many gun magazines... at least I admit it
Anyway I was flipping through the latest purchase and ran up on this. It had a piston driven reloading system instead of the traditional one most AR's use. This allows for a shorter weapon sans the recoil spring associated with the M-4/16.
Plus I just thought it looked cool.
I made the ambidextrous charging handles so it would slide back and forth but just couldn't seem to make the handles fold and open So for now they are glued in place. I shaved off the forward assist and rear charger and built the housing for PDS. Then I added a modified trigger guard like I've seen on some new rifles for gloved hands. Still needs a bit of detail cleanup and I'm still detailing the red dot sight I'll add to it as well as the sling/mini butt pad to fit on the rear rail. Once done I then need to figure out who to put it with.
Hope y'all like it !
LMK what ya think, Thanks for looking !

Re: Ar piston driven pistol sytem (new mod)
Nice work. But I am curious as to how the (real one) will auto load without a buffer tube and spring? Is it just a single shot?

Man, you really chewed through every single paragraph of the magazine looking for inspiration.
Very interesting concept, and great replication nonetheless.

As I understand it the piston system does it all eliminating the need for buffer spring.. something like a hydraulic cylinder would do ?? I might be incorrect though but that's what i got from the little I've read about it.

Hey, desperate times ya know !
I've seen this system used by Daniel Defense and I think maybe LMT... But I liked the pistol type look of this one , it caught my eye when flipping through.
Glad you like it !

So the arms company updated the Olympic Arms OA-93 Pistol? Hardly seems original

Re: Ar piston driven pistol sytem (new mod)
There are different types of piston systems available out there. This looks like it is almost like a long stroke AK piston system.
The piston system used in most AR's is a short stroke piston and requires the buffer tube/spring to return the bolt to the forward position.

True, but I bet it would look cool with a Punisher figure.

Sounds right, the look reminds me of the AR Defoe carried in Clear and present danger.

Pretty sweet weapon. Very nicely duplicated, i made a Pistol AR a while ago as well, but i went with the short buffertube instead (I'm lazy)

Re: Ar piston driven pistol sytem (new mod)
Nice AR. I made one a couple years ago along the lines of Olympic Arms AR pistol. It has a gas operated recoil system in the form of a top rail.
