Re: Japanese Americans(U.S. Army 442 corps)
Hi Matsu@be :-) My father-in-law's name is Matsuo. And he had two brothers that served, one in the 442nd (KIA Vosges Forest, France), one in the 100th in Italy. This is really beautiful work, thank you for presenting your fine craftsmanship. Is the headsculpt yours or where did you get it?
Bottomline, really realistic and I must applaud. The headsculpt looks like my wife's cousin.
Cheers!

Re: Japanese Americans(U.S. Army 442 corps)
Also, did you shorten the height of the figure in order to make the oversize fitting more realistic (referencing books about the 442nd and the photos). And what uniform did you use - or was that custom as well? Both the top jacket pockets and the big pant pockets look very custom, I want that uniform! LOL, cheers!

Re: Japanese Americans(U.S. Army 442 corps)
I believe this is one of your best, tho I'll admit the 100th and 442nd have always been among my favorite WW2 subjects. The uniform and web gear are very realistic, with the dark, grungy look that those took on in the field.
I was also intrigued by the shoulder patch, as I didn't know there was an earlier first version -
A new bit of knowledge for me.

Re: Japanese Americans(U.S. Army 442 corps)
Fantastic work, my friend. A wonderful tribute.
(Although, that first designed patch was never used. The 442 guys hated it for it's obvious racial connotations, so they redesigned their own. The blue hexagon with the hand holding the torch. But even that patch wasn't worn a whole lot later in the war. I have yet to find an image of a 43 field jacket with the unit insignia sewn on)

Fantastic figure Sure beats mine!
And just for conversation purposes, I don't think you would see the original patch on too many items, especially the combat clothing. Most of the time, it is the 34th "Red Bull" insignia they wore after being opcon to them in Italy. I've really only seen their patch worn on the Ike jackets post war.

Re: Japanese Americans(U.S. Army 442 corps)
You're definitely right about that. If you see any insignia at all, it's probably the 34th. I have, however, seen one photo of the blue hexagon patch worn in combat, supposedly taken in Livorno, Italy. But that's the only photo I've ever seen. It's so rare that I somewhat doubt that the photo was labelled correctly and might actually be from later. There are quite a few examples of the patch on combat clothes immediately after the end of hostilities in Europe and looking back at my photos, some are on 43 field jackets, so I stand corrected. So it wasn't only on Ike jackets/dress uniforms.

Re: Japanese Americans(U.S. Army 442 corps)
And another nitpick, now that I look at the figure again. The trousers are the airborne modified "M43" variety. Either the regular wools, or the HBT's would be more appropriate for a Niesi.
Still, a very well done figure, don't get me wrong, but if you are striving for accuracy, which I assume is the case considering the amount of time and skill put into something like this, then it is important.

Re: Japanese Americans(U.S. Army 442 corps)
Here are some interesting facts. Did you know there were at least 2 Nisei Soldiers who fought in the Battle of the Bulge. One - Cpl. Yamaguchi was in a hospital recovering from wounds when he was pulled to help defend. He was in the original 100th Bn. He actually was wounded again during the Bulge and lost his leg to a land mine. Private Fujinari was with the 101st and was trucked into Bastogne. He was one of 15 442nd soldiers to volunteer to become airborne. Also Pvt. Tokunaga, another airborne volunteer, participated in Operation Varsity - the largest airborne drop ever. He jumped with the 17th (part of the 82nd) into Germany in March of 1945.
