What happens to your collection when you die?
Like everyone on this forum, I've spent (wasted?) a small fortune on 1/6 figures - I don't regret buying any of them, for me I've got the disposable income to be able to afford them (just!)
One thing that goes through my mind is that I'm middle aged now, and I'm of the opinion that when I get too old, I'll probably try to sell my collection.
I know it's a bit morbid, but what are other peoples plans for their collections when they kark it?

Re: What happens to your collection when you die?
Now this is indeed a morbid topic... If I have children and they want it, they can have it... If not, they're available to anyone who wants them, I don't really care... cos I can't bring them along to where I'm going...

Re: What happens to your collection when you die?
I put some fire dispositive in my shelfs, so anyone who touchs my figures after i drop the ground will follow me in short time.
This do had some problems when housekeepers try to clean the shelfs, but i have a good space at my backyard, and untill now the police and neighbords never discovered a thing!

Will. I leave my stamp collection for one daughter, coin for another, and the last, my figure collection! That is 3 daughters. What the last daughter wants to do with all these soldiers, I don't know...

Re: What happens to your collection when you die?
I'm having mine put on a longboat with my body and cast out onto the waves, where it will be set ablaze by a flaming arrow released from my family's best archer so they can accompany me to Valhalla. Wait ... that's old Norse ... I was baptized a Christian ... we're kind of conservative when it comes to funerals so ...
I guess my wife and kids / grandkids get first crack at any of them they might want to remember me by. After that I hope they find their way to another friend and/or collector's happy hands where they'll be appreciated either by sale or gift from my wife or kids as they see fit.

I want to give them to the kids , but if I dont have any. Then I would like to have all my Vietnam figures taken and placed at the Vietnam Vet. Memorial.

Well I'd hope my figures would have the decency to attend my funeral after all the money and time I've spent on them! (or is that supposed to be the kids?).

Re: What happens to your collection when you die?
we could do it chinese style: have paper versions of our figures burnt to take to the afterlife! or egyptian style, and have them all buried with us.... or we could just let the family have them.

Re: What happens to your collection when you die?
Well I know there's nobody in my family who would want them, so selling them may be my only option - I'd like to know they've gone to a good home and to someone who appreciates them.
Tis a morbid subject - but surely I can't be the only person who has thought about this..?

Re: What happens to your collection when you die?
just be glad you were able to get into this hobby in the first place . like any hobby. you have it now and may not tomorrow. you never know when the REAPER will come knocking at your door. i see it as a collection to pass. pass time and enjoying the hobby with your fellow collectors with your family with your friends. dont be to attach to your prize collection as collections come and go like you. so thats why you pass it on either you pass it on by selling it giving it away or donating them so simply you pass it to whom ever is going to enjoy them as you did so when your gone its not going to matter any ways right.

Re: What happens to your collection when you die?
My wife and one of my daughters joke about calling 1 800 GOT JUNK and renting a big dumpster the minute I die or selling everything on eBay. My other daughter wants a couple of them and my step-sons could give a rat's butt. But I plan on an early and rather severe case of senile dementia (or as I call it second childhood) so they'll all be torn up from plllaying in the backyard and won't be worth anything anyway.

I like this one. Personally I don't plan to have any children (because I don't like to share my toys), but I've always been a big supporter of Toys for Toys. I know they like things that are new and in package, but some of my movie toys may be an awesome gift for older kids getting into a collection.

Re: What happens to your collection when you die?
I hope they would get sold off to pay off all the massive debt accrued buying these awesome bits of plastic crack.
I would take them with me, but how would I know they were there or not?....

Re: What happens to your collection when you die?
These figures will not last more than 30 years, so if you're living past that, then there will be no decision to make. Plastic breaks down, even though everyone thinks that it lasts forever; look at the original GI Joe plastic boots, they're now beginning to turn to powder, even when being stored carfully and handled minimumly.
And when that starts happening, they won't be worth diddly.
So in effect, the figures will die too.

Your family sells it for a fraction of what you paid for it... I've thought in passing what I could do to avoid that...
