John Carter of Mars figure at Comicon and more
Came accross this picture of this figure and another statue from
the series. I didn't really follow the story or artwork that much,
but I have to say, the work on the John Carter figures looks
pretty good. Lots of real metal accents with ringlets, buckles,
armor and boots parts. That along with the leather work, I'd
say, he's a pretty nice figure.
John Carter from Mars & Goro statue.
John looks good on the Triad EVO body.
Not my thing, but I still like the John figure.
What do you think??

Re: John Carter of Mars figure at Comicon
Honestly I don't really like it that much.Oh and that's not a Goro statue it's Thars Tharkis a warrior of one of the Alien races in the John Carter series of books.

Yeah, like I said, I didn't follow it. But I was going off what
someone else said it was. They actually corrected someone else
when they said it was a Thars Tharkis, saying it was a Goro.

I read all those books a long time ago, but then if you read one ERB book you've read them all, lol.
Anyone else think this guy looks like Freddie Mercury?

I think this looks all kinds of awesome. Especially the Thark warrior.

This looks like the John Carter from the animated series... John Carter in the books wore a lot less clothes (pretty much everyone on Mars was naked except for boots belts and harness).

My only experience with John Carter is his appearance in the second League of Extraordinary Gentlemen book.

That's somewhat debatable, actually.

Both figures look well done and certainly something I'd buy, if they actually made it to market.

Re: John Carter of Mars figure at Comicon
Must to say -- don't get it. I haven't seen the film or manga or whatever the character is from. I know Triad does a lot of manga stuff. But you know one of the mangas that was popular was about a boy who looks like a girl who moves into a house of another boy -- and then the boy starts to fantasize about the boy/girl .. so, how is that a cool thing. Like I said I don't get it. And the character does look like a Nancy!

These characters are from a series of books by Edgar Rice Burrows, best know as the author of the Tarzan series of novels.
The Princess Of Mars, first in the series was first published in 1912.
The movie won't be out till 2012, a hundred years after the book and will star Taylor Kitsch, who recently portrayed Gambit. I guess, with a lot of imagination, the HS might look a little like him.
I don't know of any animated versions though.
There was also a very low budget version released straight to video last year with Antonio Sabato Jr as Carter, I've not seen it but it sounds awful.

Re: John Carter of Mars figure at Comicon
I'd get the figure and probably get rid of the body/ head (Triad bodies are a real disapointment), the outfit is great! Loving the steampunk feel. Are Triad making the Thars Tharkis figure too? It doesn't look articulated to me, but does look awesome all the same

Thanks for posting this, interesting to see. I quite like the boots and the harness but the skirt looks girly. There's something weird going on at Triad toys as we all know so don't hold your breath.

I'll be buying him when he comes out. I would also love to see an articulated Thark and other Martian Creatures.
Looking good Triad!

Re: John Carter of Mars figure at Comicon and more
Well, there are so many pictures of Triad items from Comicon starting to come in, I thought I just add these as well.
Here's some more Comicon pics from Nash(another forum member).
Looks like House has a new sculpt, much
improved I would say and he's on the EVO.
Plus Paul Phoenix on the new EVO Muscle body.
Man, that is so 1980's in a good way..
Along with a better EVO & EVA picture. They're looking closer to
the prototypes each time I see them.
Though I am not a big fan, I guess Zorro is getting a lot of
attention. Looks like the comic Zorro and he's on an Hispanic EVO.
Hmmm, could this mean more skin tones for the EVO & EVA,
that would be awesome.

I think John Carter really should be on the more muscular Evo. Would make the whole thing work much better.

I would agree based on the art posted right before. Sorry to say, never
read any of it. So I don't know how he is detailed in the books.
Is he really a muscle bound guy like in the art?
Any die hard John Carter of Mars book fans know?

Re: John Carter of Mars figure at Comicon and more
Judging by the picture (that can be a bad thing) I think all these figures look good. Not my cup of tea, but for those collectors these are geared towards...I think this is a great idea...not the ususal military stuff.

Re: John Carter of Mars figure at Comicon and more
Here's a brief description of him... I don't really think he is the muscle bound type of hero.
Carter stands 6′2″ tall and has close-cropped black hair and steel-gray eyes. Burroughs portrays him as an immortal being. In the opening pages of A Princess of Mars, the author reveals to the reader that Carter can remember no childhood, having always been a man of about thirty years old. Many generations of families referred to him as "Uncle Jack," but he always lived to see all the members of the families grow old and die, while he remained young.
His character and courtesy exemplify the ideals of the antebellum South. A Virginian, he served as a captain in the American Civil War on the side of the Confederacy. He strikes it rich by finding gold in Arizona after the end of hostilities. While hiding from Apaches in a cave, he seemingly dies, and leaving his inanimate body behind is mysteriously transported by a form of astral projection to the planet Mars, where he finds himself re-embodied in a form identical to his earthly one. Accustomed to the greater gravity of Earth, he is much stronger than the natives of Mars.

Re: John Carter of Mars figure at Comicon and more
Thanks itchybitz and Bernard2002 for mentioning the books. They are great reads, as is a lot of Burroughs, few films have done Tarzan justice. I like the figure with the exception of the hs, would have prefered something like the Frazetta cover illustrations, like the one blackrazor1 posted (last illustration). Did anyone hear about the film project based on John Carter of Mars? All I know is that Willem Dafoe is going to play Tars Tarkas, the ten-foot-tall, four- armed Martian. Also Polly Walker from HBO's "Rome"(she played the hot but nasty Atia) is in the film.

Sci-Fi, er, SyFy station had that really bad 'Princess of Mars' on recently... Traci Lords wore too many clothes as Dejah Thoris and Antonio Sabata, jr was John Carter... Got thru 5 minutes before I had to change the channel...
